Chicken of Tomorrow Contest Farms On Maryland Entries
Poultry breeders in Maryland prepare 1950 entries for the Chicken of Tomorrow program under Wade Rice at University of Maryland. Each breeder starts with 100 wing banded unsexed chicks, grown twelve weeks to May 22, then delivers fifteen cockerels to Esskay Cordova Plant for judging. Winners receive a trophy. merit certificates awarded. entries advance to Southeastern Regional Exhibit in Spartanburg, SC the week of June 4. The national program will be held next year. about 70 entries expected from commercial raisers and 4 H participants.

Census Taking Progress on the Eastern Shore
Report by E V Evans Jr of the Census Bureau notes 184 860 Eastern Shore Marylanders counted through April 25 out of an estimated 231 000, 79 percent. Agricultural count shows 9 832 farms counted of 12 164 estimated, 81 percent. District praised for cooperation, hospitality, and diligent enumerators, with only one bite by a dog and one skinned knee as casualties. Oldest enumerated is a 104 year old woman in Wicomico County. Preliminary totals for nine counties to be released next month.

Bids invited for grading drainage and surfacing a relocated road from Andersontown to Federalsburg 285 miles long. Work begun south of Andersontown last year with completion to cut travel between Denton and Federalsburg. By-passes and improvements along greensboro burrsville road and by-pass of Hillsboro and Queen Anne nearing completion. The new road by-passing Greensbor open to traffic.
