Final plans for Silver Tea benefit in Denton
Final plans have been completed for a Silver Tea to aid Easton Memorial Hospital. The event is set for Saturday April 22 from 2 to 5 PM at the home of Mrs J Owen Knotts. Cochairs are Mrs Knotts and Miss Ella Carter with a large committee overseeing refreshments flower decorations publicity and hosting duties. A doll exhibit by Mrs P T Collison of Wilmington will be featured. Public admission is invited and a large crowd is expected.

The Caroline County Tuberculosis Association reports its most successful year, detailing public health efforts, fundraising via the annual Christmas Seal Sale, and how proceeds support nursing, education, and patient aid. In 1949 3134 X-rays were taken, 156 home nurse visits occurred, and the Seal Sale rose to 2212.70 dollars though short of the 2500 goal. The group funds a nurse, assists with supplies, ships fruit juices to patients, and covers bus or ambulance costs. The Salisbury office manager Norman P Foster warns many eligible retirees and survivors fail to apply, as benefits are not automatic. Fire early Wednesday morning destroyed a six room frame house on a Denton area farm in Tuckahoe Neck six miles from Denton. Owner Charles Whalen tenanted by Eugene Preston and family had $500 insurance. furniture and clothing were not insured. Preston family saved some belongings and moved to a nearby tenant house.
