Federalsburg Mayor and Council urge Caroline County to relocate the county liquor store outside the town limits. The brief letter cites disorder on the municipal parking lot and says the move would protect Federalsburg business life without removing the store from the broader community.
Bobby Johns, the Miami driver, joins Chevrolet for the Rebel 300 at Darlington on May 9 driving a 1957 model. He expects Chevrolets to handle the Thunderbird and recalls past Darlington troubles. The Johns team remains a family affair with a strong crew, and open house preparations at the track are underway amid a weather-impacted April period with other calendar notes.
Howard H. Gordon was appointed general manager of the six state Southern States Co operative, succeeding the late O. E. Zacharias Jr. Gordon, 59, has worked with Southern States since 1943, recently serving as assistant general manager since 1948, and previously held roles in personnel advertising marketing and member relations.
Brethren Relief Truck will stop at the Church of the Brethren in Denton on May 5 to collect clothing and food for Church World Service. Donations may be placed in the Church Annex before the date, with priority given to food for foreign work campers in Sardinia Berlin and Kassel Germany. Needed items include canned meat and fish vegetables fruit dried vegetables fruit canned juices cocoa coffee tea shortening jelly peanut butter cheese spread macaroni spaghetti noodles cereal sugar flour baking powder mixes and more.
Parents of children entering first grade in September 1959 in Caroline County must register at the school they will attend on Wednesday April 29. Registration runs 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Parents moving or changing schools should register at the new school. Late registrations allowed only for new movers.
About 5000 one month old broilers perished in a big broiler house blaze Tuesday night. The fire struck a Preston area farm two miles northwest, leased by Howard M Harris from Trappe Feed Company. Harris said an oil burner exploded, caused by unseasonably cool weather. Loss partially insured. Preston Volunteer Fire Department saved only a small portion of the building.
Opening day for Little League and Auxiliary scheduled for Saturday May 2 with doubleheader at 1:00 p m and 3:00 p m. Rotary Lions American Legion and Legion Auxiliary teams report readiness. ceremonies at 12:30 p m. Parades form 11:30 to 12:00 with plans for queen selections and fence work. season schedule lists daily games through June 30 with 6:15 p m starts for most contests.
Daylight Saving Time begins April 26, 1959 at 2 A M and ends in fall. Baltimore policy cited as basis for the change. Denton will advance clocks to align with the new time standard.
Churchmen, farmers and growers from Caroline Talbot and Dorchester counties are invited to a Preston meeting of the Choptank Area Migrant Ministry Committee on Friday evening May 1 to organize religious recreational and welfare activities for migrant laborers expected this summer. The program operates under the National Council of Churches and Maryland Council of Churches with Rev Samuel A Snyder directing. The meeting at Bethesda Methodist Church Social Hall begins at 7 30 p m with Rev George W Goodley of Denton as chairman.
The State Teachers College Salisbury chorus and women’s ensemble present a concert on Wednesday May 6 at 8 00 p m in the college auditorium The program features a musical world tour with tunes from Salisbury Latin and South America Europe Israel China Australia Hawaii and back to the United States Soloists include Jean Gladden Thomas Daffin Thomas Parker and Charlene Mosher Accompanists are Joanne Little Wanda Murphy and Dean Powell under the direction of Dr Jessie L Fleming
The Denton Woman's Club announces its Spring Fashion Show chaired by Mrs K T Everngam and Mrs George Beck Jr The event at Denton Armory on April 30 at 745 pm features Hess Apparel and Clark Shop models with numerous listed ladies and junior participants Tickets are 150 from club members.

He also covers Eastern Shore dairy marketing, REA loan authority, steamship dual rates study, a poultry market study, and a bill to remove the sunken African Queen near Ocean City.
Trinity Methodist Church Goldsboro announces a dedication service this Sunday April 26 at 11 00 am for the new chancel pews and other gifts. An oak altar light altar chancel will be dedicated along with new flower vases baptismal bowl and bell. 24 light oak pews were secured by subscription. Senior and chancel choirs will sing and the Carol Choir will attend. Sermon titled Building Gods House. The dedication will follow the sermon.
Rotary Club of Denton forms for a Chicken Festival Beauty Pageant to select Senior and Junior Miss Denton for entry at the Delmarva Chicken Festival in Dover June 25-27. Chairman George Beck Jr outlines standards, prizes, and committee structure with prizes and coaching details.
The Edenton Homemakers held their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening April 6 at the home of Mrs. Clare Kauffman. Vice-president Mrs. Tressie Reger led the session with the Homemaker's Creed. Eight members answered roll call. Mrs. Phyllis Smith gave an engaging report on Picture Hanging. Mrs. Tressie Reger described the Making Hats workshop conducted earlier.
