Courthouse tower clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday April 25 to begin Daylight Saving Time Denton banks and officials announce the change Denton County schools will stay on Standard Time while other firms observe the shift to DST for timed appointments and church timetables
The annual Rotary Awards were presented on April 20 at the Brick Hotel to ten students from each class based on scholarship perseverance initiative leadership cooperation and hygiene. Odessa Baseball Club hosts Denton Denton’s Cy Cole at Schaub Park Sunday at 2 30 PM opening day. Team boasts past Delaware title and strong prospects with players like Sherman Tribbitt and Harry Hughes en route. May 2 opener marks Mar Del League begins with multiple matchups and new managers.
Caroline County Commissioners refused to establish an advisory farm bureau board or raise the tax rate to fund road maintenance. Delegates Howard Harris Chas Dean John Williams urged a 10 cent tax increase and a farm bureau advisory panel. Officials cited current equipment limits and winter road damage, noting a $10,000 machinery cost. they reduced the current levy from 1.37 to 1.30 per 100 dollars.
C E Wise of Baltimore described the Maryland Farm Bureau as an insurance policy for every farmer, noting it pays more than it costs. He cited chain stores backing pea sales to curb surplus cans, while M H Brightman highlighted dairy income as the most stable farm revenue. John Ward credited savings on real estate, gas, feed, seed, and fertilizer through the bureau. The program included singing, a puppy show, and remarks by officers from Caroline and Maryland Farm Bureaus.
The life of Jesus in King of Kings will be shown at First Methodist Church Wednesday at 7 30 P M by a Cambridge Audio Visual Aids Service representative. The public is invited and a free will offering will defray expenses.
Miss Rita Ann Rogers of First Methodist Church Denton Caroline sub District wins Easton District Declamation Contest at District Youth Conference in Preston. Her essay What Christ Means To Me earned a $40 gift certificate used to buy a Gruen watch with honorable mention going to Charles Reiter Jr. of East New Market who received a Parker pen.
The Nursing Committee of Caroline County Health Association hosted an Open House at the Wealth Department in Denton on Tuesday April 13 during Public Health Nursing Week. Public health nurses led tours, showed a film on home and clinic work, and refreshments were provided by committee members with Girl Scout volunteers. Forty guests from across the county attended, and thanks were extended to Home makers' Clubs and Girl Scouts for their contributions.
Firemen's wives at the Fire House on April 15 formed the Ladies' Auxiliary with temporary officers. President Louise Singer, Vice President Lois Stafford, Secretary Willye C. Baker, Treasurer Nan Collins. Present were Mrs. Irvin Smith, Winnie Cohee, Hazel Towers, Ella Henry, Sylvia Holland, and Betty DeFord. An organization meeting with county organizer Mrs. Irvin Daffin was held to promote the group.
Greensboro Md residents will vote for three two year commissioners at an election next Monday April 26. All town voters are urged to participate. The paper notes Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 a.m. Sunday April 25. Clocks advance one hour to EST.
At the April meeting of Memorial Hospital Easton directors Mr. O G Martino of Federalsburg was elected to the Board, adding a Caroline count to two directors from the county.
Judge Goldsborough imposed heavy fines on John L. Lewis personally and on the United Mine Workers for contempt of court after delaying civil contempt penalties to Friday. Lewis fined 20,000 and the UMW 1,400,000, double prior amounts, with possible jail threats if miners stay idle. Morison said the penalties aim to compel miners back to work, while Hopkins argued the fines were excessive and political motives were involved.
