Rotarians to Sell Miss Denton Pageant Tickets

Rotary members plan door to door delivery of free pageant programs on April 26 to sell tickets for the Miss Denton beauty pageants on April 30. Twenty four contestants are slated across senior and junior divisions with out of town judges and local coaching staff guiding the event.

The Intermediate Registration on April 12 added 161 Republicans 125 Democrats and 12 declin agreeing to total 296. Choptank Officials Testify on Potomac River Study

Harry T. Nuttle of the Choptank Electric Cooperative testified before both houses and committees seeking full funding for a Potomac River survey by the Corps of Engineers. The 1944 study estimated 2.3 billion kWh annual production. Nuttle outlined delivery options and urged local legislative support from the Potomac basin. John W. Asher Jr. joined in the testimony before the Senate subcommittee.

Girl Scouts Annual Dinner Set for April 27

The Peninsula Girl Scout Council will hold its annual dinner at 6 30 p m on Wednesday April 27 at the Civic Center Salisbury Md All registered Scout Adults their friends and all Senior Scouts are invited Neighborhood chairmen delegates and Board members are especially urged to attend Nine delegates elected at this meeting will go to the National Council meeting in November in St Louis Missouri with about 7000 other adults and Senior Scouts The event will also unveil plans for the Girl Scout Birthday Years and feature Dr Robert A Varley of St Peters Church as the main speaker The gathering expects strong turnout from Delaware Maryland and Virginia.

The Denton Police Department summarizes state fireworks rules effective June 1 1941. Discharging or possessing fireworks without a permit is unlawful and penalties include fines up to fifty dollars per offense for individuals and up to two hundred dollars for sellers.

Boat Show At Choptank River Boat Basin Sunday

A weekend Boat Show will be held all day Sunday April 24 at the Choptank River Boat Basin in Denton. About ten dealers display a variety of boats with demonstrations for watermen. Admission is charged with refreshments for sale.

Rapist And Assaulter Sentenced To The Pen

Paul Eugene Thomas, 28, of Hell's Lane Ridge ly, was sentenced on Apr 14 to seven years in the Maryland Penitentiary for statutory rape by Chief Judge J DeWeese Carter. A second count was dismissed. jurors, including 11 white and 1 Negro, found him guilty of statutory rape but acquitted him on assault. Roosevelt Thomas, 41, of Greensboro was convicted of assault and battery and sentenced to 3 years in the Penitentiary. A bastardy case remains on the docket.

State Trooper Activity During The Past Week

The State Police report for the past week notes a one car accident 1.9 miles north of Greensboro on Cedar Lane Road at Cannon's Cross Roads. Thomas A. Bennett of Greensboro drove north and failed to negotiate a right curve, ran off and overturned. Both Bennett and passenger Charlotte Hammer of Greensboro were taken to Memorial Hospital at Easton. The driver was charged with reckless driving.
