Rotary Club Grants Citizenship Certificates To 24 Students
Twenty four North Caroline High School students were awarded Citizenship Certificates by the Denton Rotary Club for outstanding achievement. selections by grade recognized scholars with criteria including scholarship perseverance loyalty initiative cooperation and hygiene. Certificates were presented at the Brick Hotel during the club dinner by Rotary President James Chaffinch and Principal Frank Gerhardt.

Week of State Police activity includes crashes and arrests
The State Police report details an April 7 two vehicle crash on Route 313 two miles north of Oil City with no injuries. Vehicle owners James States and Johnathon Longfellow sustained estimated damages of 150 and 500 dollars respectively. Longfellow charged with following too closely. Multiple arrests and warnings occurred April 8 and 9 across Routes 404 and 328 near Denton. April 9 case Courtland Hines found guilty of disorderly conduct, fined 13 dollars plus costs. Orville Baynard pled guilty to assault and was fined 40 dollars plus costs. Robert Anderson arrested for disorderly conduct and sentenced to seven days in jail with no fine.

The scale tops out at 5700 after 11 years matching the state level with masters degree adding 200 and non degree 400 less. Miss Beatrice Williams longtime supervisor of instruction for grades kindergarten through four in Caroline County will leave her job June 30 1960. A Somerset County native she holds a B S from the University of Virginia and an M A from Columbia Teachers College. She plans to continue her public school career in Baltimore County.

Eight Criminal Trials Conclude in Caroline Court
In the first week of the April 1960 term eight cases, all criminal, were disposed of. Paul Eugene Thomas was found guilty of statutory rape of a female under 14 with a potential 18 to 20 year sentence. Other defendants received 12 to 18 months and probation dispositions. Several judges and local detectives were noted in the proceedings, with outstanding docket items including welfare fraud, assault, and two bastardy cases.

South Caroline School Bid Plans Approved for 1961 Opening
Plans for South Caroline High School have been approved for submission to bid by the Board of Education. An 8 p m meeting of the School Advisory Committee is set for Wednesday April 20 at Federalsburg High School. With final drawing under way bids are expected in May and award by June.
