Service Clubs Of Caroline Hold Joint Meeting Here
Nearly three hundred Rotarians and Lions from Caroline Counts gathered at the Denton Armory last Tuesday for a joint meeting honoring Rotary International District Governor W. Edwin Uncer, Lions International Dick Blades, and Muarsland Governor Wm. Preston Lane. Attendees included Rotary clubs from Denton and Federalsburg and Lions clubs from Marshel, Greensboro, Denton, Federalsburg and Preston. President John W. Logan of Denton led the program with Rivers Chambers performing as troubadour. The dinner was served by the ladies of Caroline Chapter, No 62, Order of the Eastern Star. The event was deemed a success and will become an annual affair.

The Greensboro Baptist Church Women’s Missionary Union met April 11 at Mrs Thurman Pass waters home. Devotional by Mrs Roland Van Dexter. Talks urged more Bible printing, aiding Nigeria Japan Europe and Latin America. The group planned Bible purchases, noted old Bibles from 1824, and reported a $50 Annie Armstrong Flame Offering. Refreshments followed and revival begins Wednesday.

Dairy Cows In Caroline County Boost Artificial Breeding Use
Caroline County dairy farmers report 745 cows bred artificially in eighteen months with some calves already in milk and cooperation from Queen Anne and Talbot County Artificial Breeding Cooperatives. The county census lists 7,000 to 8,000 dairy cows and heifers, with an average herd size around 12. A sire herd model helps farmers access quality sires cheaply as adoption grows. Veterans On the Job Training launched in November 1946 offers farm-based training for veterans with eligible farms and equipment. applications are screened by a county committee to ensure successful post-training farming prospects.

Somerset Boy Captures Grand Champion at Eastern Shore Hog Show
Marvin Detwiler of Somerset County won the grand champion and reserve champion barrows at the Eastern Shore 4-H and F.F.A. Fat Hog Show and Sale held April 11 at Queen Anne's County 4-H Club Park near Centreville. The 228 lb grand barrow sold to Armour of Baltimore for 45 cents a pound. the 225 lb reserve barrow sold to Esskay for 35 cents a pound. This marked the first time a 4-H or F.F.A. Club boy exhibited both champion and reserve in one show, with both champions being Hampshire hogs. There were 123 fat hogs shown. judge was Joseph Vial, with Boyd Whittle assisting. The event is sponsored by University of Maryland Extension Service, vocational agriculture teachers, and the Maryland State Fair Board, with prices averaging above the Baltimore market.
