Good Friday devotional service at First Methodist Church

A three hour Good Friday devotional at First Methodist Church Denton begins at noon with Rev John E French assisted by Norris Meredith Wesley Junior College Dover Delaware Soloists Anita Rue Benjamin F Johnson and James M Clarke organist Mrs Gilbert Rue The service has seven 25 minute parts with musical interludes allowing come and go The theme From Gethsemane to Calvary includes the Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus Pilate’s Verdict Denial of Peter Judas Remorse and the Crucifixion Everyone is invited to attend.

Col Mowbray Returns Home From Pacific Service

Col Mowbray discharged from the U S Marine Corps at Bainbridge Naval Base and returned to his parents near Denton on April 8. He served from December 1943, trained at Paris Island Camp Lejeune and Combat Intelligence School, then fought in the Pacific with the First Marine Division, earning the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars, Presidential Unit with one star, Navy Unit with one star and the Victory Ribbon.

Soil Supervisors Met At Henderson

The April meeting of the Caroline County Soil District Supervisors was held in Eden Halls Henderson Tuesday night April 16. Vice chairman Clayton Roe presided over discussions with H. K. Shults detailing duties and objectives. A round table followed with farmer questions. John Cotton from University of Maryland Extension Conserva tion showed two movies, Permanent Agriculture by the U S Soil Conservation Service and Blasting Ditches by DuPont in the first district.

Legion Auxiliary Adopts Projects for County Roll of Honor

Caroline Unit No. 29 American Legion Auxiliary met at the Armory to adopt two projects. The first seeks to complete the county Honor Roll by collecting names and addresses from families of service members. The second aims to compile a list of county residents who died in service, urging families to send survivor details. The unit invites Gold Star mothers and eligible women to join, with applications from Miss Christine McNeal or Mrs. C. E. Roberts. Pfc. Robert E. Lane returns to Camp Hood after a 60 day furlough. brother Pvt. Willard N. Lane is on furlough and will report to Camp Kilmer for overseas assignment.

Baldwin Lane and McKeldin Fill State Tickets For Primary

Democratic hopefuls Baldwin Lane and William Preston Lane Jr. filed state-wide slates for the Maryland gubernatorial primary. Hall Hammond and William Curran join Lane for positions of deputy attorney general and attorney general respectively, with James J. Lacy seeking State Comptroller. Baldwin supporters include John B. Funk for Comptroller and J DeWeese Carter for Attorney General. McKeldin’s GOP ticket lists George Doub for Attorney General and Alexander T. Grier for another post, as the filing closes.

Shore Utility Expands Vienna Generating Plant Capacity

The Eastern Shore Public Service Company of Maryland plans a 15000 kw steam unit at Vienna to meet rising Delmarva Peninsula electric demand. Work begins on enlarging the plant with boiler and auxiliaries. total capacity will reach 20000 kw, up from 12000 kw in 1941, signaling strong regional growth across industrial, commercial and domestic sectors.
