Teachers Win A Salary Increase In Caroline County
Caroline County commissioners raise teachers salaries by 100 dollars across the board starting next September. Edward D. Sparks said the School Board reported that with neighboring counties offering higher pay, Caroline County struggles to recruit suitable teachers. Last year the county boosted pay by 200 dollars for all teachers, making the starting minimum 2400 dollars for beginners. The county began the fiscal year with 202,808 dollars plus an 80,000 dollar school construction fund. For 1952-1953 the construction bill is not listed, but amortization on the 750,000 dollar bond issue will begin with a 45,000 dollar payment in 1952-1953.

Area Girl Scout Council To Be Formed
The first organizational meeting for forming an Area Girl Scout Council will be held at Caroline High School in Denton on Tuesday evening April 22 at 8. Invitations go to citizens clubs churches and civic groups across Caroline Talbot Kent Queen Anne and Dorchester counties Maryland and Kent and Sussex counties Delaware. Members will decide whether to start the council with a steering committee of about 15, plus finance and constitution subcommittees.

W. O. Mills, longtime Den ton exchange manager for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore City, is named camp manager at Bainbridge Naval Training Station in Maryland. Mills, a Denton area veteran since 1941, plans to move his family to the Bainbridge region soon. he is a Federalsburg native, son of Marion E. and wife from Maple Ave.

Wilbur M. English, 29, of Seaford, dies from a fractured skull after a car left the road near Preston and overturned twice. He died at Memorial Hospital Easton at 2:45 a.m. Sunday. Twister Hits Milford Neck in Delaware
A twister from the Delaware Bay swept Milford Neck on Monday afternoon near Milford at about 3 p.m. It damaged farm structures on John Hickman’s and moved a corn crib and a meat house while pinning worker James Houseman to a wall briefly. Heavy rain and hail accompanied the funnel, with Milford streets flooded. The storm was localized to Milford with only light showers elsewhere in the state.

The Greensboro addition contract went to Choptank Construction of Cambridge on September 28, 1950 for 151610.54 dollars. Work adds a commercial department, two science rooms, music, home economics lab, general shop, new heating plant, coal storage, and book room with updated facilities in the old building. Plans for Preston, Ridgely, and Caroline High Schools were drawn by William H. Elliott. Preston addition bids were let October 10, 1950 for general, plumbing and heating, and electrical work, with features including home economics labs, core classrooms with running water, new shop with equipment, and updated finishes. Chief Emory F Walston of the Denton Volunteer Fire Company submits the quarterly report covering January February and March. Alarms total twenty five with chimney ten buildings three grass one and miscellaneous nine plus assisting other companies two. Attendance equals six hundred twenty one man hours with four hundred thirty seven men in service and an average attendance of seventeen per alarm. Man hours per fire equal twenty four percent and estimated loss is fourty four thousand one hundred fifteen dollars.

Rules Announced For National Cooking Contest
