County schools closed Wednesday evening with classes resuming Monday. Teachers will attend their annual convention in Indianapolis Thursday and Friday.
Grady E. Terrill files for divorce from Lilie V. Terrill in Carroll circuit court citing cruelty. The couple married December 7 1946 and separated October 11 1956. He seeks custody of two minor children Hanna and Hanna represent the plaintiff.
William H. Eikenberry 91 brother of Oren Eikenberry of Flora died Tuesday morning at the Church of the Brethren home in Mexico. Funeral rites are Thursday afternoon with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.
Nancy Co rule and Virginia Peterson, juniors at the local high school, were selected to entertain teachers at the Indiana State Teachers convention in Indianapolis on Thursday. They will deliver speeches during the event.
Flora veterinarian Dr. Paul H Wagaman seeks joint representative for Cass and Carroll counties. native of Kokomo he is married with four children and active in Scout and Farm Bureau circles. Also featured is Mrs Abbott widow of James F Abbott and candidate for Recorder with Camden roots and local service. Delphi attorney Mr Hanna veteran candidate for Indiana Legislature and past state official roles.
John C Grubb 47 of Flora route 1 was arrested by Deputy John Miller on a four count warrant in Lafayette County for selling non tested cattle and altering a cow identification tag. Grubb posted a $1000 property bond and faces charges including TB and Brucellosis testing lapses and tag alteration.
Susie Myrtle and Martha Ward of Camden were honored with the Camden Lions Outstanding Citizen Award for 1956. They have run the Camden exchange for thirty-two years, working daily from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and have rarely taken a day off. The Lions club dinner featured slides on telephone service and the Ward sisters’ service to Camden.
Mrs Charles Kerlin named general chairman of the county Mental Health Association Christmas gift drive. She will be aided by Tri Kappa members with township and city chairmen to be announced. A quota of 1000 gifts is set for Logansport State Hospital patients, matching last year. Mrs John T Kirkpatrick, Carroll County Mental Health chair, named coordinator for 18 counties. She is assisted by Mrs Everett Smith of Logansport. organizations may contact them to arrange Christmas parties.
Delphi Troop No 35 Boy Scouts of America announces an adult committee effective Oct 31 led by John W. Sanderson as committee chairman and Maurice F. Clifford as institutional representative. Other appointees include scoutmaster Robert L. Sieber and officials for advancement membership finance activities and explorer advisorship.
Mrs. Lilly Terrill of Delphi was arrested by officers Wednesday morning on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She is held in the county jail.
City leaders Mayor Roy Clauser Chief of Police Underhill and School Superintendent Ross Tipton hosted a joint meeting with Student Council members and press to improve understanding between youth and authorities. Students argued for more coverage of positive student events and less emphasis on delinquency.
Delphi defeated West Lafayette 24 to 20 to clinch the Northern State Conference title race, with the Oracles overcoming injuries and late pressure. Jim Blythe scored the fourth touchdown as Delphi came from behind, while WL faced a rash of injuries including Lonnie Woods Gary Alberts and Jerry Wagner.
Dr Eva Kennedy a Camden physician was among 30 Indiana doctors honored at the 107th Indiana State Medical Convention in Indianapolis. She received a 50 year pin from Dr C C Grampton of Delphi, noting her 48 years of practice in Camden.
Lynn Anderson, Carroll county game warden since 1953, moves to Laporte county to serve as warden in the south half. Dallas Skull, from Vermillion county, will replace him in Carroll. Exchange expected shortly after November 1.
Mrs Wilma Taylor remains very ill and confined to her Rockfield home with no change in condition.
Delphi Public Schools offer adult education across many subjects but only 32 people have enrolled or shown interest, short of the 15 needed to form a class. Eight classes are currently represented including typing bookkeeping French sewing art chorus or band agriculture U S History Economics English Grammar mathematics wood working drafting American literature political science world history biological sciences physical science and driver training. Those interested should contact the Superintendent’s office in Delphi for enrollment details.
John W. Sanders, 19, of Young America, is jailed in Carroll County on vehicle taking charges. He had just completed a six month sentence at the Indiana State Farm on a similar charge. Sanders was arrested after the stolen car belonging to Walter Hammond of Deer Creek was found wrecked near Kokomo following a joyride through Howard County. He was returned to Delphi jail by Sheriff Carey and Deputy Miller.

Kathleen McGuire, Delphi connections, E W McGuire Sr. of Delphi. the Edging family of Flora with a Memorial Hospital Logansport daughter. the Yates family of Delphi with a son born October 20 at St Elizabeth hospital Lafayette. the Clawson family of Radnor with a daughter born October 20 at St Elizabeth hospital. the Humburger family of Flora with a son born October 18 at St Elizabeth hospital.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Sprague are planning to move soon to Paw Paw Michigan. The brief notice notes a forthcoming relocation to the Michigan town, with no additional names or dates provided.
A Delphi group announced plans to open a school for retarded children starting November 5 in the Girl Scout rooms at the courthouse, with Mrs. Irene Conderman as teacher from 9 to 11 30 daily and at least four students enrolled. Achievement Day for the Carroll County Home Demonstration clubs is set for next Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the REMC auditorium, Delphi. Morning features Mrs. Lloyd White of Kansas City on Philosophy Through Your Hat, with afternoon speaker Oliver Fields of Chicago on Food and Drug Quackery.

Mrs. Mabel Brewer of Selective Service announces Carroll county must furnish two draftees for induction and six men are to report for physical examination on November 2.
