Harold E. Berninger FTMSN USN is recognized as FT Man of the Month for September after an 18 week program with an academic average above 96. He is a Delphi High School graduate who attended Purdue University and will graduate January 27 before transfers to Great Lakes and then Mare Island for guided missile training.
A two car collision four miles west of Delphi in Tippecanoe Township left both drivers, Harley Schnepp of Indianapolis and Dennis M Widner of Delphi, uninjured yet investigated by Deputy Sheriff Jerry Britton after Schnepp failed to yield at a cross road.
Mrs. Donald Kelly presided as Veronical Oesterlein, 1966 Governor of Hoosier Girls' State, was the principal speaker. The event welcomed new teacher hires with a dinner at pupil homes and a social hour after refreshments in the cafeteria. Gerardo Medina was introduced as the A F S exchange student from the Philippines, a yearlong son-for-a-year of Dr. and Mrs. Seese.
Mrs. Claude R. Wickard aged 74, widow of former Secretary of Agriculture Wickard, died Monday morning at Home Hospital Lafayette after a year of illness. Born April 2 1892 in Logansport, she married Wickard April 20 1918 who served under F D Roosevelt. Funeral services were held at Hopewell North Church with burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery.
Carroll County Christian Youth Council sponsors a vocational workshop at First Baptist Church Camden at 7 30 Monday evening October 24. Representatives from various occupations not requiring four years of college will discuss and counsel. All county young people are invited to attend.

Mr and Mrs Charles R Bradshaw of Delphi announce the engagement of their daughter Georgiana to Harry Webb Southwick Jr son of Dr and Mrs Harry Webb Southwick of Kenilworth Illinois The couple will wed December 31 Miss Bradshaw attended DePauw and Parsons Colleges and is an Alpha Xi Delta member The groom is a Parsons graduate and a Sigma Phi Epsilon member
Lee Calhoon of Western Southern Life Insurance in Delphi is promoted to Associate Manager and will report in Seattle on October 24 to begin new duties. He and his wife Thelma Hayden and their two children will relocate once housing is found.
Mr and Mrs Matthal Fowler of Danville Illinois are parents to a six pound fifteen ounce boy born Monday October 10 The mother is Nancy Simons daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Simons of Delphi Indiana.
October designates Co op Month and Indiana leaders promote farmer cooperatives. The Carroll County Co op Store in Delphi will host an all day open house on Saturday October 22 with refreshments and on site demonstrations of farm equipment.
The Carroll County Farm Bureau hosts the district meeting on Thursday evening October 20 at 7 45 at the REMC Auditorium in Delphi. George Coup president of Indiana Farm Bureau Inc will speak. Lawrence Holloway district director and Mrs James Viney district women's leader arranged the program. A new District Woman Leader will be elected.
Mr and Mrs D L Hizer of Delphi are the proud parents of a daughter born Thursday October 6 at Home Hospital. The baby joins the family and is reported in good condition.

William Lee Robinson pleaded guilty to rape before Judge William B. Smith in Carroll Circuit Court. The trial was set for Oct 3 with 66 jurors examined. other charges were dropped. A pre sentence investigation was ordered. the penalty ranges 2 to 21 years with no suspension.
Two Kokomo men were killed Saturday at 9 20 p m when their auto crashed into a trailer truck six miles south of Logansport Indiana 218 29 in Carroll County The car the Temperton brothers Sam Keith and George was headed west with lights off and failed to stop for 29 The truck owned by Mid States Grain Trucking of Lebanon carried crates of tomatoes The truck driver was uninjured The crash left the auto dragged 100 yards and the bodies near the left rear wheels The deceased were taken to a Logansport funeral home Deputy sheriffs and state troopers investigated
In Frankfort, West Lafayette won the Central Indiana meet with 26 points as runners placed 1 2 5 8. Logansport led a strong finish, and Delphi trailed behind. The Twin Lakes Invitational saw Logansport claim first with Oracle Indians seventh of 14. The Hoosier Conference Championship is set for Thursday at the Country Club course, with West Lafayette favored in an eight team field.
The Delphi homecoming parade starts Friday at 2 10 pm with the City Police car leading a procession of Oracle football players and a high school band. Four queen candidates ride in convertibles topped with seven floats sponsored by classes, hidden until the start. A pop session, speeches, and the crowning of Homecoming Queen follow, leading to the Oracle Bomber game.
Pittsburg Boy Scout Troop 134 entertained their parents at a chili supper held in Tiowa Grange Hall. Forty-eight guests attended as Scoutmaster Donald Ragan and assistant Larry Moore were honored with deer skin billfolds for leadership and loyalty. The troop plans a fall camp-out for October 29-30 to work on merit badges.
Mrs. Raymond Novatney and Mrs. Dennis McGuire of Cleveland visited Saturday with Mrs. G. A. Shaffer and her daughter Mrs. Irene Mason. Also staying over weekend was Miss Marcia Mason of Marion.
Delphi’s Oracles remained undefeated with a 34 to 0 victory over Clinton Central as Ron Israel rushed 150 yards on 11 carries and scored once. Craig Groninger added a 60 yard TD catch and a late point after, while Jim Borton and Steve Wood contributed a defensive score. The defense held firm, limiting Clinton Central to 136 yards and forcing a punt that sparked Delphi’s second score.
The Oracles host the Rensselaer Bombers Friday night in a barn burner that could boost the Oracles to 27 straight wins. The Bombers, boasting two 300+ pound tacklers and backs Epler and Yeoman, seek revenge after a last second Oracle victory last year.

The County Council met in special session Monday and granted all advertised requests except for a 50 dollar reduction in County Home livestock funds and a 50 dollar increase in the County Home Superintendent travel expense. It also turned down a 425 dollar wage increase for County Home staff.
