The new portable X-ray unit purchased by Carroll County Tuberculosis Association from General Electric is installed in the Carroll County Loan and Trust building. A GE representative finished final adjustments on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming clinic.

D L Chapman of Delphi a Purdue electrical engineering senior has been elected to represent the electrical engineering students in the new student government. He was appointed by university ROTC officers as a Cadet Captain to act as Battalion Executive and was elected to serve on the Military Ball Committee. Details of the ball are forthcoming.
Richard Everett and Herbert Howard of Lafayette received 30 days in the county jail and a $25 fine plus costs after pleading guilty to a petit larceny charge. The automobile banditry charge was withdrawn. They have been held in jail since arrest awaiting trial.
County assessor Orvel Schock announced the Bowen estate will owe about 18400 in inheritance tax. The estate, totaling large, is divided among five heirs E W Bowen one third Charles Bowen Busey one twelfth Marrietta B Tawney one fourth Robert Bowen one sixth and Marguerite Sullivan one sixth.

J L Groninger 53 of Deer Creek died instantly Friday night after being struck on State Road 29 two miles south of Logansport by a Lubrite Oil Co manager Walter W Crompp driving north. Coroner Dr Donald Miller labeled the crash unavoidable as headlights blinded the driver. Funeral services were held at Deer Creek Lutheran Church with burial in Deer Creek cemetery. He left a wife two sons two brothers and five sisters.
The Federal Land Bank of Louisville will open a branch in the state house announced Tuesday by A G Brown executive vice president. In charge will be L B Clare of Franklin chairman of the board and F L Keer assistant secretary. The bank will operate until December 1 to shift credit burden from state banks to land banks under the National Recovery program.
George Richman former Kempton State Bank cashier who repelled three bandits in an attempted January robbery has been named national bank examiner. He identified Thomas Howard as one of the robbers who shot at him. D B Craig of Monticello succeeds Richman as Kemp ton bank cashier.
Buck Creek bank closed Tuesday tied to Fowler bank collapse and reopened Wednesday as a class B bank. Officials say funds will be tied up for about three months while the transition completes.
William Steele 75 died at the county farm Sunday morning at 3 o clock. A former Headlee resident, he had been at the farm for three or four weeks. The body was sent to Prevo and Son Funeral Home for funeral arrangements. Nearby figures note about 100 000 pits for wool manufacturing.
Dudley Richardson alias Frank Byrd will stand trial for murder in Carroll county for the June shooting that killed Patrolman J Wesley Wilson in Lafayette. The case moved from Tippecanoe county amid claimed prejudice and faces possible death penalty on Counts 1 2 and 3. James Richardson was killed and officer Paul Klinker seriously wounded in the gun battle.
One hundred forty one taxpayers in Cass township White County filed a petition with County Auditor Claude Scott to the state tax board. They ask to keep township rates at a level enabling eight months of school and to pay accumulated teacher salaries.
Monroe Township, with a high town tax rate of 2.82, filed a petition against the budget and rate of Monroe school township and Monroe Civil township.
