Flora Youth Sues Walter Bailey for 57850 Damages

Charles E. Helvie by James W. Helvie sues Walter Bailey in Carroll circuit court for 57850 in damages claiming a Dec 4 1955 bicycle collision on highway 18 one mile east of Flora caused permanent injuries. The suit filed by Cook and Cook of Kokomo seeks a jury trial.

Tax collections exceed prior year in Carroll County

County Treasurer Robert Ferrier announced Carroll County taxpayers paid 529 987 28 into the county treasury during the November tax paying period, topping last year’s 515 076 19. Detailed payments listed by township include Jefferson 39 443 52 and Deer Creek 60 123 31 among others.

Peru Wins Local Speech Contest at Delphi School

318 students from 22 schools entered the Delphi event held last Saturday. Peru took first place with Howe Military Academy second and Fort Wayne North Side third. Delphi judge roster included James Carnes and others. Robert Jerry led the event and praised for handling details. Delphi winners included Sue Brandaway, Nancy Temple, Kay Clawson, Maxine Pullen, and others.

Bridge contract awarded for Riley Sink bridge beams

In a special session Monday morning the Board of County Commissioners awarded Midwest Prestressed Concrete Company of Springfield Illinois a contract to furnish pre fabricated bridge beams for the Riley Sink bridge on the Flora Camden blacktop. Their low bid was 7854 dollars and the county highway department will place the beams.

Rainbow formal initiation set for November 26 at Masonic Temple

Formal initiation for eight candidates will be held Monday evening at 7 p m in the Masonic Temple. Choir members and officers will meet for practice after school on Wednesday. A social hour will follow with Kath leen Lee Irene Sweet and Alice Shank in charge.

County residents honored with gallon pins at Bloodmobile visit

Three county residents received gallon pins at the Red Cross Bloodmobile event in Camden last Thursday. The new pin recipients were Rev. James Rankin, Mrs. William H. Park of Delphi, and John McCain of Camden. A total of 62 pints were donated, with 343 pints donated countywide this year.

Gochenour Promoted to Fort Wayne Commercial Manager

Eddie Gochenour son of Dr and Mrs Walter Gochenour of Delphi will become commercial manager of the Fort Wayne District for General Telephone Company. He currently serves as district commercial manager in Elkhart and will take over January 1 1957 as the Lafayette based company merges with Home Telephone and Telegraph Co. He succeeds D F Buesching who moves to general commercial supervisor. Gochenour has past posts in Connersville and North Manchester and studied at International Business College in Fort Wayne. He is a Mason Elks Rotary and member of the Methodist church.

Adult sewing and art classes planned at Monroe Street building

Cheer Club Names Mrs. Trobaugh Week’s Reader Hero

The Delphi Lions select Mrs. William Trobaugh of Delphi as Cheer Club member of the week. She recently fractured her hip and remains hospitalized at the Soldiers Home Hospital in Lafayette. Though confined, she uses a walker and is visited by her daughter Mrs. R. E. Davidson and Captain Davidson, adjutant at the Soldiers Home. Her late husband served Delphi City Water Superintendent for years. Lions urge a shower of cards and letters to cheer her.

Goff DelphI Merchant James A Goff Dies At 78

James A Goff 78 a long time Delphi merchant and community figure died Monday night at Home hospital after a recent surgery. Born December 12 1877 in Ossian Indiana he opened the Goff 5 10 store in Delphi 44 years ago and remained a resident. He leaves widow Anna O Haver son Ernest Laverne and three grandchildren. Funeral services are set Friday at 2 p m at the Methodist church with burial in the Masonic cemetery.
