Globe Valve constructs a new 100000 gallon steel water tower at Delphi rising 120 feet to support an automatic sprinkler system and to heat water against freezing using a steam line from Globe boilers. Erection by Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company began two weeks ago and should finish in about a month if weather stays favorable.
Mrs. Claude Brooks is a patient at St Elizabeth hospital where she underwent surgery.
Curtis McCain departs today for Florida and will remain there until the first of the year, according to plans announced.
Union Bank and Trust Company will observe Monday November 12 Veterans Day as a legal holiday and will not be open for business.
Carroll county voters 5748 strong backed Ike as 27 of 28 precincts swung GOP. Only Democrat Joan Abbott won county recorder race. Turnout hit 83 percent with 9192 votes cast. McCain narrowly won county clerk. Wickard trailed Capehart in state races. Abbott, Smith, and Eikenberry among three Democrats elected.
The Harry Bohannon Post of the American Legion plans Sunday observance at Delphi Presbyterian church with a 10 am worship service. Members meet at 9:30 am at the Legion Home and march in a group. A Monday smorgasbord and dance follow at the Legion Home with notes by The Noteables.
American Education Week observance runs November 12 17 in local schools with a 7 30 p m program November 15 in the high school auditorium. Wes Humphrey directs the concert band while Carolyn Lafever leads the Monroe Street and junior high choir. After the program parents may tour rooms and meet teachers. high school students will serve as guides. The finllcrest building will be open with teachers in their rooms.
At its session on Monday night the People's Building and Loan Association voted to add two new directors to its seven member board. The new directors will be elected at the stockholders meeting in January.
Noel Douglass announces coaching staff for the 1956-57 season. Robert R. Gordon will lead the varsity, Royce Adams the second team, Tony Berto the freshman coach, Clarence M. Weick the 7th and 8th graders, and Kenneth Bell the 5th and 6th graders. Basketball practice started Monday night.
Carolyn Shultheis, bride elect of John Burkle, was feted at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Mrs. Adolph Timmons. Prizes were awarded, gifts opened, and refreshments of ice cream cake coffee nuts and mints served by Donna Simmons Carolyn Coble and Wanda Duff.
The weekly recreation program for boys in grades 5 and 6 begins Saturday November 17 at the Armory from 9 to 11 a m. Kenneth Bell a sixth grade teacher at Monroe Street school will direct the activities.
Carroll county residents are urged to donate five thousand dollars to the 1956 CROP drive led by chair man Dean Todd. The goal covers about 300 per farm family, with an actual need of eight hundred dollars. Volunteers will canvass on November 19 21, and township chairmen are sought in Liberty Tippecanoe and part of Washington townships. Grain gifts are encouraged to support Church World Service and CROP feeding the hungry through surplus commodities.
Conrad defeated Ralph Hanna in Tuesday's balloting. Conrad carried Clinton 8 894, Carroll 4 550, and White 5 467 for 18 911. Hanna totaled 15 438 with Clinton 6 838 Carroll 4 325 and White 4 275.

St Matthews Lutheran church will mark its fifth anniversary with a dedication of the newly purchased and redecorated parsonage at 315 Front Street. The ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Sunday features Rev. Walter M. Wick of the Indiana Synod as speaker. Zion Colburn and Bethel Pettit Lutherans join in the celebration with special music by combined choirs. Holy Communion and a fellowship dinner follow. newly received members will attend.
A local drive aims to collect 1000 gifts for mental patients with 500 for men and 500 for women. Mrs Charles Kerlin of Delphi chairs the effort with assistants Betty Flora Sybil Pettiner Joan Johnson Virginia Gibson Flora Lou Woods Lucy Long and Mary A Bieber. Gifts may be left at Burlington Drug Store Myers Hardware Hataways Plumbing and Seating Shop and Public Service Service Co. in Delphi.
College and high school style wrestling will be shown at a free exhibition Tuesday night November 13 at the Armory starting at 7 30 p m Four or five exhibition matches are scheduled The event is arranged by Claude Reich Purdue wrestling coach in cooperation with Clarence Weick local grade school teacher Weick aims to introduce wrestling into the local high school's sports program and the exhibition will acquaint fans with the sport's rules and regulations
Seniors of Delphi High School present three one act plays in the high school auditorium on Thursday and Friday nights. Tickets remain available for both performances via any senior or Wynkoop's pharmacy.
Delphi will enter its first debate meet on Saturday at Peru with the resolution The Federal Government Should Sustain the Price of Farm Products at 90 percent of parity. Affirmative speakers are Sara Johnson Joe Clawson and SueAnn Sieber. negative speakers are Virginia Fisher Virginia and Steve Peterson. Homer Myers and R H Jerry accompany the team.
Lawrence Ohler has filed suit for divorce from Elsie Ohler in Carroll circuit court. They married March 6, 1942 and separated October 21 this year. They are the parents of two daughters. Julien and Kerlin represent the plaintiff.
James A Goff lies ill for two weeks and receives observation and treatment at Home hospital in Lafayette.
In Carroll County voters favored retaining Central Standard Time with 5340 votes to 1640, while 1662 supported year round Daylight Saving Time and 3937 opposed. Eastern Standard Time year round drew 2828 in favor versus 2676 against, and 4061 rejected Eastern Daylight Saving Time.
Mahlon Kerlin carried Car and Cass counties to victory in Tuesday's election as joint representative. Kerlin totaled 15,408 votes while Paul Wagaman collected 13,237 in the two counties.
Delphi speech students enter their second contest of the year on Saturday at New Haven. Travelers include Nancy Rule Linda Bowen Carole Welch Kay Clawson Jane Bradshaw Joyce Lucas Maxine Pullen Marjorie Sanderson Sue Brandaway and Elsie Echler with chaperones Norm Ebrite and Tony Berto.
Carroll County Purebred Live stock and Agricultural Seed Producers directory announced by county president Fritz Schnepf. Fifty four livestock and seed producers were listed in the 1954 55 directory. Steering committee includes Fritz Schnepf Eldon Robeson Lawrence Douglas and Harold Berry. Contact committee members to be included.
The Oracles beat Monticello 54 to 13 to cap a 7 2 1956 season for Bertos squad. Joe Hanna opened with a 74 yard TD, Jerry Wagner added a 52 yard score, and Wagner scored twice more as Delphi exploded for four first half TDs.
Province Seven of Tri Kappa held a Saturday workshop at the Delphi Library with 35 officers from towns across the province. Mrs. Mary Clawson presided as Mrs. Leon Adler outlined a project to furnish new drapes for a ward at Logansport State Hospital costing 115 dollars. The group then toured Logansport State Hospital.
An adult farmers class will meet Tuesday evening November 13 at 7 30 in the high school agriculture room with instructor W S Weaver guiding the session.
