A collection of humorous lines on youth and age, marriage, humility, weather and society. Jokes touch on etiquette, work, prudence, and everyday people with playful musings about Dawes and public life. The quips mix social observations with light satire.
Arrangements completed for Decoration Day events in Delphi and nearby cemeteries. G A R room at Court House hosts 2 30 P M program led by Rev R B Kern and bouquets prepared by Boy Scouts. Lunch for veterans and wives served at noon. D A R memorial service at Masonic cemetery honors several women. Memorial services planned for Sharon Baptist church and Sharon cemetery at 2 P M Saturday. Zion and Ball Hill cemeteries set for May 30 with addresses by Rev A E Murphy and Rev Carter, Bringhurst Band providing music, flowers by Bringhurst and Cutler ladies. Public invited.
At Delphi's Methodist Church Mrs Hazel Coble Mikesell of Adams Township wed Edward Simons of the same area at four o clock Tuesday. Both have prior marriages. The bride is a well known and prominent young woman with many friends sending best wishes.
Of fifty graduates this week twenty intend college but sponsor estimates only about twelve will enter in September. Names include Mary Angell Cartwright Helen Shaffer Jack Swatts Mahlon Kerlin Karl Grimm Jeanette Julien Lester Temple Frances Wingerd Roberts Gardner Agnes Wagoner and William Clauser undecided. Clauser to receive the D A R history medal at commencement Friday night. A son was born to Mr and Mrs John Cartwright of Greencastle Monday.
Miss Anna Trobaugh died Tuesday evening at 7 00 at her Delphi home after a brief illness. Active in the Eastern Star and Ladies of the G A R she aided the Carroll County historical play. Funeral at 3:00 Friday at the home with Presbyterian minister Rev Dale LeCount presiding. Burial in Masonic cemetery with G A R service at 7 80 Thursday evening. She leaves two half brothers Roy and Harry and sisters Mrs Laura Beard and Mrs Harriet Robinson and two brothers Sam and Charles of Indianapolis.
Mrs Love C Caulkins of Indiana polis and her daughter Debetha visit the Wil sons in New Carlisle Ohio. Debetha of the Purdue class of 1925 will graduate June 9 and become supervisor of Home Economics in New Carlisle schools next year. Debetha is the seventh family member to graduate from Purdue including her parents uncles aunts and cousins in Indiana Westport Oregon and Phoenix Ariz.
American Legion Auxiliary appeals to readers to buy poppies made by disabled veterans in hospitals with proceeds aiding the veterans. Monon railroad announces discontinuation of passenger trains No 9 and No 10 between Lafayette and French Lick due to车 competition from cars and buses. accommodations have run at a loss.
The Wabash railway now operates a daily local freight train in each direction. This marks a return to daily service for stock shippers after Delphi previously had shipping three times weekly.
The Delphi Citizen reports a milk price increase effective Monday June 1 due to prevailing conditions. Dairy man John Smith notes the new pricing. Subscribers are reminded the paper costs $1.50 annually.
A June special advertises a scalp treatment package at 109 W Front St offering six shampoos six hot oil treatments and eight Violet Ray sessions for eight dollars. The service claims to stop hair loss promote growth and eliminate dandruff and scalp troubles with a luxurious rejuvenation theme. For appointments call 282 2.
Indiana farmers face more than ten million dollars in losses from Sunday night frost. Purdue official G I Christie reports widespread damage including seed corn needs of 4 000 bushels in Benton County and serious losses to corn rye and wheat. Tomato crops in eastern Indiana almost wiped out with hopeful notes on seed sources and late planting strategies.
Pearl Anderson, formerly of Lexington, now Greenwood, Ind, asks The Citizen to update her address and resend back issues including the 9th 16th and 23rd. She encloses postage and asks to be notified when her subscription expires.
Missionary societies in Carroll County announce an all day meeting at the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday June 8 to celebrate the fifty year anniversary of the Presbytery. Mrs Peterson of Darlington and Mrs Coulter of Frankfort will present the Jubilee Goal with Mrs Sidwell speaking. Lunch at noon. Roy Gardner of South Delphi reports the acquisition of the A L Akers home.
Next Monday at ten o'clock a county superintendent of schools election is set. Republicans back Virgil Stinebaugh, Delphi high school principal, while T. W. Armstrong, former county superintendent and Junior High principal, is also favored. Salary raises and the elective status of the office spark debate as an injunction blocks a Washington Township school building.
Delphi Cleaning Co at 116 E Franklin St offers pressing services for men suits at 35 cents per item. Nearby Baum's Feed Store and Cream remains a landmark along the same street.
The Sugar Bowl candy kitchen and ice cream parlor will reopen next week after a fall closure. Harry Cree of Flora and C R Landis of Dayton Ind. lease the room and fixtures. Cree, formerly at Crosby Hotel, brings local concession experience and aims for a Thursday opening.
Delphi Chamber of Commerce members anticipate a June meeting at Hickory Grove on Wednesday evening June 10. Ladies invited and joining their husbands for a banner gathering. Summer schedule shifts meetings from Thursdays to Wednesdays due to band concerts.
