A collection of humorous and pointed maxims on courtship marriage and social behavior. It jokes about diplomacy fashion language and gender roles with brief wry observations and a few corrected sentence samples. The tone mirrors late era column humor and essay snippets.
A number of changes will be made on three rural Delphi routes on June 1. Sixty five families will be added to routes one two and three as the territory is transferred from Battle Ground and Monticello routes. Route three will extend from Newman's corner to Springboro bridge and past the Childers farm. Routes two and three will depart Delphi via new paths and gain area north of the city. Merchants welcome the added patrons as Delphi remains the trading center.
A cleanup week in Delphi will be followed by a fire department inspection to verify cleanliness and fire hazards. The week starting June 1 is designated fire prevention week with local cooperation to identify rubbish and other hazards needing remedy.
Mrs. E. E. Kirkpatrick hosted a party for the upcoming marriage of her daughter Carolyn to Dale Calvert of Detroit. Tri Kappa members and close friends attended with games and refreshments. The couple, both Delphi High School alumni, plan a June 15 wedding and a motor trip afterward. Out of town guests included Fern Ferling, Kathryn Thomas, Mary Gustavel, Ruth H. Large, and Wilna K. Coleman.
Mrs. L. H. Smith hurried to Raymond Nl to tend her father Mr. Chapman who fell while mowing and cut his hand on a lawn mower. Blood poisoning from the wound led to his death at about six o'clock Wednesday morning. He was nearly eighty two. Funeral services were held Friday.
City crews have completed cleanup of street and alley Rub Bish piles this week. Favorable dry weather aided the operation and a full rain rinse is requested with a twenty four hour application to finish.
Roy Trobaugh departed yesterday morning for Martinsville to fetch his sister Miss Anna Trobaugh who has been residing in the sanatorium there. Her condition is not significantly improved.
May events fill schools with open houses and programs. A museum exhibit in the history room attracts visitors while 3 15 p m musical in the gym and a 7 30 p m typing demonstration entertain guests. Commencement at 8 00 p m May 29 features Gilmore Stott delivering the address on a Man Sized Job.
The program opens Sunday evening with the baccalaureate sermon at the Presbyterian church. It is a union meeting of all churches. Rev. J K Eikenberry will deliver the address Rev. Martinson the invocation Rev Dale LeCount the scripture reading and Rev R B Kern the benediction. The high school chorus will provide the music.
The Delphian staff enjoyed a Wednesday gathering at Miss Elizabeth Best’s home. Delphian sponsor, Miss Best, supervised. Domestic Science girls from 7th and 8th grades held a Tuesday picnic at High Bridge with Miss Mabel Madigan and Miss Helen McCarty as chaperones. Gym class girls picnicked at Miss Katherine Griffith’s home south of Delphi. Senior Play cast attended Oakdale camp Friday night for a dance and picnic supper with several teachers as chaperones. Delphi Hi Y club held its annual picnic Tuesday at McCain camp on the Tippecanoe river with each boy inviting a girl. Names of graduates listed include Josephine Brooke, Bethel Brooke, Florence Brown, William Carson, Donna Cartwright, and many others.
George Shilling, a Standard Oil salesman for the district, remains in critical condition at St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette after a sudden illness during a town tour east of Delhi. A Chicago specialist has not yet diagnosed the case. He suffered convulsions and possible ether gas effects, with meningitis suspected. His wife Julia Cochran and two children await his recovery as doctors and friends monitor his progress. Delphi residents and relatives plan to visit.
Carroll Telephone Company says a new directory will be printed next month and is being prepared for printers. It seeks patrons cooperation to ensure correct numbers spellings and addresses and urges people planning installations or moves to update their details so the directory remains accurate.
All members of patriotic organizations and the Boy Scouts are asked to arrive at the Court House by 9:00 AM on Saturday May 30 to arrange flowers for the cemeteries. A lunch will be served at noon and a patriotic program will be held at 2:30 PM in the Assembly room.
Memorial Day observances are set for May 24 in Delphi at 10 45 a m with Rev Martinson at Delphi Baptist church. Veterans groups meet at the library at 10 15 a m to attend in a body. A Union service is scheduled May 24 at Flora Community Building with Rev R C Dillman delivering the address. Cemetery services in Flora on May 30 at 10 a m will feature Rev A P Musselman of the Church of the Brethren.
The State Y M C A requests an upright piano in usable condition for Camp Tecumseh to support songs and music in the boys and girls camping program. Those with an old piano to spare may contact the editor or write the State Y M C A at 1300 City Trust Bldg Indianapolis Indiana.
State police announce enforcement in the county next week of new laws governing parking of vehicles and the use of tail lights. Officers will focus on compliance and safety traffic flow.
The 1925 enumeration of children ages 6 to 21 shows a total gain of 12 over 1924. Jackson township records the largest increase with 41 more children, while Rock Creek drops by 37 to 245. Flora gains two, Delphi four, and Monroe remains unchanged.
Delphi Commandery No. 40 hosts Ascension Day services starting at 9 30 a m in full uniforms. Guests include Grand Commanderies of Indiana and R E George F Hitchcock of Plymouth and Edward J Schoonover of Indianapolis. Basket dinner at Delphi Park noon. Afternoon program features Indianapolis Masonic quartette. welcomes by T W Armstrong and Schoonover reply. Marion's John O Campbell to speak.
Mrs Myron Ives and Mrs Henry B Wilson traveled to Crawfordsville yesterday for a Dorothy Q chapter DAR reception honoring state regent Mrs Charles W Ross and past state regent Mrs Wilson. The event at Mrs William McCabe home drew members from all patriotic societies in Crawfordsville and many visitors from across the state.
Mrs Yanus Wells of Delphi was chosen head of district No 2 in the Indiana Women's Christian Missionary society at Marion during the 26th Indiana convention of the Disciples of Christ. Other attendees from the city included Rev. and Mrs. Grant Smith and Mrs. Wm. Corns.
At Burrows Thursday 111 members attended the Rock Creek township Farm Bureau meeting. Geo Sites spoke on the bureau's work. Leon Canton was chosen president while Milton Fross was elected secretary and treasurer.
Mrs A L Hodgson and daughter Mary Georganne of Munice plan a Monday arrival to spend the week with Mr and Mrs L M Pletcher. Mr Hodgson Delaware County agent will attend the club leaders gathering at Camp Tecumseh next week.
Robert Bradshaw Paul Ashba W H Bradshaw L Neff and C E Mc Cain attended the I C O F meeting in Indianapolis this week.
The Charles Carroll Chapter D A R held its annual meeting at Mrs. Myron Ives home. Elected for the coming year were Regent Mrs. Julia Cowdin Vice Regent Mrs. Josephine Ives Secretary Mrs. Julia Ireland Treasurer Mrs. J H Cartwright Registrar Mrs. Myron Ives Historian Miss Jennie Jordan. A June 19 installation date was announced at Mrs N W Bowen home. The program featured Abigail Adams letters read by Mrs Cowdin and a talk on the author of America by Mrs N J Howe. Refreshments were served by hostesses Mrs T J Ryan Mrs Julia Ireland and Miss Hardy.
The Junto Club held a Tuesday evening gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Orr with a seven o clock dinner in a yellow color scheme. Officers elected include President Mrs. L M Pletcher Vice President Reid McCain Secretary Forrest Orr Treasurer Mrs Abner Bowen Historian Mrs Clay Pearson. A talk by Mrs H B Wilson on Seeing Washington followed. The next meeting on June 21 will feature the perennial garden survey and a picnic at the homes of Mr and Mrs Reid McCain.
In observance of the high school commencement the Historical Society will host a short Friday evening program in the library. The event features community singing and a talk by W C Smith on county efforts to establish a permanent museum.
The Eastern Star auxiliary met in the Masonic temple with a committee chaired by Mrs. C O Julius. Edith Sanderson sang and Naomi Pruitt played piano. sandwiches and coffee served. Next meeting moves to June 11 with Naomi Pruitt as chair. members asked to note date change from third to second Thursday.

She notes awaiting an umpire and mentions continuing on page three as the Tide of farm life and trout season themes mix with local events.
