Farm policy push seeks voluntary wheat cotton price plan

Farmers enrolling would receive certificates worth about 70 cents per bushel on four-fifths of their allotment yield, boosting returns to about $2 per bushel, while nonparticipants forego price supports. The proposal mirrors Senator McGovern's plan and echoes long running debates on reducing government farming involvement. Indiana farmers show mixed appetite for less government interference amid intertwined wheat and cotton bills supported by textile interests.
