A former Delphi barber known as Curley Randall stops by the Citizen office before press time. After a busy first half day of filing for office in Carroll County, the pace slowed. Democrat John L. Lipp of Frankfort filed for Joint Representative Carroll and Clinton Counties while Republican Walter Sprinkle filed for the same post. Other filings included Charles Ritzler for county surveyor, Charles L. Jones for second district commissioner, and David Baum for precinct committeeman and delegate to the state convention.
The Thurman Davis residence northeast of Cutler burned Monday night. Max Overholser reported a parked car at 2 14 a m. Deputy Billy Baum responded as Cutler and Flora fire crews arrived too late. The unoccupied home had been shot at in December and ransacked last week. the sheriff's office investigates arson.
Camden gym hosts the Carroll County Junior High basketball tournament with Camden New Hope Rockfield Rossville Pittsburg Burrows and Yeoman. First round saw Camden 29 New Hope 34 Rockfield 37 Rossville 44 Pittsburg 43 Burrows 45.
Tuesday night a misunderstanding split members of the Women’s Physical Fitness Class with some skating and others exercising at the gym. All are now committed to exercise and will meet next Tuesday at 8:15 PM at the gym.
Pearl Mrs John Davis is promoted to secretary of the personnel manager at State Farm Insurance Company in Lafayette.
Mrs. Hazel Livingston is chosen as the Cheer Club member for the Delphi Lions this week. She is bedfast for six months at her mother Dora Elliott’s home on route 1 in Delphi. Lions urge supporters to send cards flowers notes and small gifts.
Ray and Richard Funkhouser of Cutler tested Pure For Sure SPF hogs at the Hoosier Barrow show in Indianapolis. Their barrows placed second, third and two fourths in various classes while the light weight winner was named grand champion over all breeds.
Mrs Ralph Sullivan is expected home today after a two week stay at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota.
The State Board of Tax Commissioners sponsored a briefing in Carroll County Court House for 14 township trustees and deputies to interpret changes in assessment procedures. Prices for grain livestock and poultry for 1964 were adopted. deadlines set May 15, 1964 for filing personal property returns without penalty.
Sinclair Refining Company announced that Paul Daniels and Glen Medley, formerly of Delphi Alignment Service at 216 West Monroe, will become Sinclair dealers at Main and Market. They will run the D and M Safety Center offering a service station and continued alignment service at the new location.
County commissioners accepted a scrap metal bid from Flora Iron and Steel Co at 56 cents per hundred pounds. The quarterly grocery bid went to Johnson's Grocery, Camden. Jack Burkhalter was reappointed for another year as superintendent of the Carroll County Home.
Invitations go to Democratic Central Committee members delegates to the State Convention county office candidates elected county officials and Young Democratic and Women's Organization officers for a Legion Home dinner Thursday evening. Roger Branigin of Lafayette the gubernatorial candidate sponsors the event first in a series to acquaint these groups with all candidates.
Prizes for the winter bridge tournament were awarded at the Carroll County Country Club Thursday luncheon. Bridge committee members were Mrs. Joe Tolen Mrs. E E Johnson Jr and Mrs. Joe Fowler. Winners included Ruth Tolen JoAnn Johnson Eileen Johnson Helen Ives Willa Bowen Opal Wood Arlyne Bradshaw G B Fouts Isabelle Freeman Evelyn Kerlin Sibyl Pettiner Martha Smock Pat Myer Betty Wagoner Elizabeth Sullivan Ginnie Emerson Helen Honan Marilyn Smith Joyce Fowler. The spring tournament committee includes Mrs Robert Pettings Mrs Will Smock and Mrs Myron Johnson. The regular stag party was held February 26 at the club.
Charles O. Coghill of the Delphi City Police captured two juvenile escapees from Beatty Hospital Westville Ind around 12:30 p.m. today at Delphi's east edge. The hospital was notified and the 15 and 16 year old boys will be returned there.
Wayne Knitter son of Mr and Mrs Harold Bud Knitter completes a Purdue electrical engineering master's degree and will move to Los Angeles to join Lytton Guidance Control Systems Division He is a 1954 Delphi High School graduate and has worked at Alamogordo Air Force Base New Mexico.
Jennie Gerard of Delphi routes 1 is chosen for a role in Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov at Culver Stockton College Canton Missouri with performances on March 12 13 and 14. Jennie is a sophomore this year.
Dr and Mrs Ed Wagoner and their Chicago daughter were overnight guests of Dr and Mrs George Wag oner last week. Sherry Wag oner a sophomore at Indiana University spent the weekend with her parents.
Claims listed against the Harvey Lynch estate moved to the trial docket include A-1 Termite Control Service for 216 dollars, George R. Brewer for varied daily services totaling 8 000 dollars, and notes totaling 6 930 dollars. Leona E. Hanna executrix seeks 14 875 dollars for services from 1934 to 1961, and Ralph E. Hanna claims 6 975 dollars for services 1946 to 1959.
The Lafay ette district county home demonstration officers from 13 counties will meet at Covington's Methodist Church on Monday March 9 at 9 30 a m. Officials include Carroll County president Mrs Wayne Langston and officers Orton Zook Keith Link Douglas Million Estal Mullin Elwood Burkle and Fred Mccain with Elaine Liley in attendance.
The American Legion Auxiliary and St. Joseph's Church ladies served a noonday luncheon at the American Legion home for thirty Haugh family members and friends after funeral services for Mrs. Harry Haugh at St. Joseph's Church. Out of town visitors named include relatives from Wabash Lafayette Rensselaer Marion Chalmers Grand Rapids Michigan and Chicago among others.
Jack Cohee was a patient at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette last week, with no further details provided about his condition or treatment.
Delphi youth Larry Anderson 13 was rushed to Ade Clinic in Lafayette after slipping with a pan of dehydrated lime used in farrowing crates. He suffered eye and face burns, was moved to Home Hospital, and returned home Monday with eye bandaged. He will miss school at least a week.
Goshen Indiana sixth graders coached by Dean Slavens won the elementary city title with an 8-0 season and captured the football crown and basketball league trophy. Slavens, son of Roy Slavens of Delphi, teaches all grades at Chamberlain School. He is a Delphi High School 1958 graduate and Manchester College alum with wife Janice Rider.
Elizabeth Hosch daughter of Mrs Ronald Hosch known as Betty Brown is hospitalized at St Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Delphi City Council discussed resurfacing 59 blocks this summer with bids being advertised. The meeting also reviewed a fogging equipment cost of 1 944.00 and called for two more quotations to meet state rules.
