Delphi Bowler Families Attend State Legion Tourney

What's Your Hobby Collecting Lighters By Herb Garver

Herbert Garver of Delphi collects lighters with donor names on the back. He has about 200 items gathered in seven years from friends, including a six inch plus tall piece and a very small one atop a cabinet. Garver came to Delphi in 1935, played on the 1935-36 sectional champion basketball team, and married Mary Jane Mount in 1940. He seeks more donations of new or used lighters.

Fatal Collision Near Pyrmont Leaves Pastor and Wife Injured

Two-car crash near Pyrmont left Rev. Herbert William LePage, 63, and Mrs. Charles E. Myers, route 2, with injuries while Mrs. Myers’ husband died. LePage, pastor of EUB Churches at Pyrmont, Colburn and Ockley, driven left of center, suffered multiple injuries. Mrs. Myers receives head and leg injuries and is in Home Hospital with her husband dead from the collision.

Carroll Groups Elect Officers and Fund Drive Report

Bob Mills was elected president of the United Fund of Carroll County at the annual meeting on February 19. New officers include Carl Baker as vice president, Mrs. Dale McCurdy as secretary, and Ruth Ayres as treasurer. Directors for three-year terms are Douglas Million, Paul Miller, Mark Porter, and Robert Clawson. Final 1963 campaign distributions totaled $16,005 with $295 in expenses. The drive honored James Davis for chairing and highlighted agencies aided, while 1963-64 AFS goals seek $1400 to send Delphi students abroad and host foreign students here.

Fire at Pittsburg church damages Sunday school room

Fire at the Pittsburg Southern Baptist Missionary Church early Sunday morning was blamed on an overheated furnace. Delphi firefighters arrived at 4 00 a m and confined the blaze to the Sunday School room, which was destroyed, while the main building suffered smoke damage. Total damages about 6000 dollars, partially insured, and church services were held as usual. Mr and Mrs Robert Moore of Chicago visited Mrs Pauline Moore for the weekend.
