Final inspections of Delphi sites for the Federal Prison for Women were conducted by E. J. Henning and George M. Warran as departments weighing Justice Interior and Labor prepare a site recommendation. The Woman's Club held its annual business meeting on Thursday and elected officers including President Mrs. Harry Brewer and four vice presidents. Secretary is Mrs. Melvin Deeter and Treasurer Mrs. Charles Shaffer. Star City lodge of Lafayette assisted with the work, and a bountiful dinner was served to delegates by the Baptist church ladies.
The American Legion Auxiliary held a market and luncheon in their new basement room in Carroll County Court House last Saturday, clearing about $20. The room, decorated in blue and white, features blue draperies and congoleum rugs, a kitchen partition and a serving window, with china and silver set for sixty guests.
Over the past week Delphi streets and Carroll county hills have been icy and hazardous. Many autos spun or rolled on north facing slopes while the South Delphi hill on road 44 is slick but not safe for fast traffic. Dayton road hills near the Masonic Cemetery and south of Pyrmont saw daily accidents and skidding.
Purdue Y M C A team of ten will visit Delphi from Friday February 6 to Sunday as guests of the local Hi Y. Activities include basketball stunts, town tours, talks by visitors, and church services.
Camden residents Mr and Mrs William R Foreman disclose the marriage of their daughter Ethel to James P Cunningham of Seattle Washington. The wedding occurred last fall and was kept quiet until this week. Ethel is a veteran public school teacher in Indiana and the western states. Cunningham works as a sales engineer and draftsman for Economy Sheet Metal Company in Seattle where the couple will reside.
At the January meeting with Mrs. Flossie Henderson present, officers for the coming year were elected. Adelia Maxwell was re-elected president, Grace Patton as vice president, and Mary Spring as recording secretary and treasurer. Helen Anderson and Grace Robbins were appointed township representatives to attend County Sewing Project meetings.
Mrs Fred Martin and Miss Mary Cochrane entertained the Tri Kappa sorority Tuesday evening at the former home. Miss Josephine Odell and Miss Helen Kirkpatrick contributed reviews. Dainty refreshments were served.
The Improved Order of Red Men Tippecanoe Tribe No 505 will meet at the Delphi Wigwam on Tuesday Feb 8 at 7 30 PM. Burlington tribe will confer the adoption degree and the Great Sachem is expected to attend. All members urged to attend and aid the event’s success.
On February 8 at 7 30 p m the Carroll County League of Women Voters will hold a monthly meeting at the home of Mr and Mrs C M Kerlin A state legislature report by Mrs Frank Lyon a discussion of the Treaty on Disarmament and Security proposed by James T Shotwell and others led by Mrs A C Clauser and an explanation of the Conscription Amendment suggested by the Christian Science Monitor led by Mrs Joseph Clark
Miss Anna Trobaugh welcomed members at her home Monday evening for a Ladies of the G. A. R. Past Presidents Club gathering. Dinner was served at 6:30. Mrs. Martha Galbreth, new Circle president, was initiated. Out-of-town guest Mrs. Henry Johnson of Chicago attended.
The Home Economics club of Washington township met at Mrs. Jess Yeakley’s home on Wednesday afternoon. The roll call prompted the prompt "Who is Your Neighbor?" as the program.
Charles Vaughan leads next Sunday evening February 1 at 6 o clock in the Christian Church. The group will discuss Expressions of Friendliness and consider adopting the motto I Will. All members and interested parties urged to attend.
Miss Lella R. Gaddis of the Home Economics Extension at Purdue addressed the Adams Township Home Economics Club on Wednesday. Officers were elected with Mrs. Chester Gardner as chairman Mrs. Robert Million as vice chairman and Mrs. Levi Blickenstaff as secretary treasurer. Twenty members attended and Mrs. Ed Blythe of Delphi spoke as a guest.
Delegates and visitors from Frankfort Remington Lafayette Chicago and other places attended the district meeting of the Rebekah lodges held in Delphi Friday afternoon and evening. The sessions were described as large and unusually inspiring. The Adina lodge hall hosted the daytime sessions and the evening program followed.
The Madison Township Parent Teacher Association met at New Hope School House on the 29th with large attendance and a strong program. Rev Berry of Pyrmont Prof W E Moore and wife of Wheeling and Radnor Grange assisted as speakers. The association adopted a resolution opposing the County Unit Bill in the Indiana Senate, warning it would devitalize local school control and create chaos.
A covered dish supper was served in the Daughters of Isabella hall Monday evening. Immediately after, two new members Mrs. Melvin Deeter and Miss Mary Kempf were initiated into the Circle. The program featured music by Mrs. Malia and Miss Josephine Clifford and a reading by Miss Hilda Roskuski.
The Charles Carroll chapter Daughters of the American Revolution marked its 14th anniversary with a four course luncheon at regent Mrs. Myron Ives home. Guests and members gathered at decorated tables to hear a program by Miss Mary Ahead of Burrows and learn of plans to mark the Carrollton Elms on the Paul Dresser Highway.
The Ladies of the G A R Morton Circle marked ten years since its founding with a cooperative noon dinner in the G A R room at the courthouse. Charter members sat at one long table with Boothroyd Post veterans at another, while other members occupied small tables. Each place held a flag card dated 1915 1925 and the banner This is our birthday and a happier one was never ours. Fifty two members attended the event.
Flora will host one of the sectional basketball tournaments for the second year in a row. The event will occur Friday night and Saturday March 6 and 7. Indiana High School Athletic Association secretary A. L. Trester announced the expansion from 52 to 64 tournament centers requiring more regional sites.
The Carroll County Tuberculosis Association met Thursday at Dame's Hotel with forty three present representing about half the townships. Officers were elected and delegates named for the state convention. A by law amendment ties membership to per family contributions. A seal sale report of 1342 dollars was noted. Speakers included Dr. F A Priest and Miss Anna Lutz urging health measures and nurse employment.
Three Flora youths Lyman Hawkins Ray Powell and Frank Sink son of Sheriff Riley Sink Delphi escaped serious injury Sunday about 11 30 after their car skidded on an icy South Delphi hill and slid down the embankment before tipping over. The fender and top were badly damaged and the teens suffered only scratches.
Tests by state highway commissions show a Pard car saving over 18 dollars yearly on 6000 miles if driven on paved roads rather than gravel. Gravel routes cost about 47 dollars more in gasoline for the same distance, at 20 cents a gallon. Officials urge drivers to compute potential savings before opposing road paving.

The Democrats of Delphi organized for the city primary and election. C. S. Baird presided as county chairman. officers elected were William Cowdin Jr chairman Paul Carney secretary Mrs Bertha Chissom assistant secretary and Charles Wilson treasurer. Precinct committeemen named for the primary include Carney Reed DeLong and Sines.
James J. Reeder, joint representative from Carroll and Cass counties, expresses willingness to aid county residents in the legislature. He notes readiness to provide information on bills on request and lists his committee assignments: Affairs of the Indiana Reformatory, Claims, Drains and Dikes, Mileage and Accounts, Rivers and Waters, and Sinking fund.
Roger M. Freeman chief engineer of Tippecanoe river hydroelectric projects and designer of the Norway and Oakdale dams died at his New York home after an appendicitis operation. He will be buried in Providence R I. Survived by widow and two children. Freeman helped gauge the river’s power potential and finance the dams. He previously worked with his father in civil engineering and his firm held Panama Canal supervision contracts. The Ft. Wayne News Sentinel notes Madeline O Connor filed for divorce from John J O Connor in Wabash circuit court. The couple married in 1921 and separated in 1924 with a six week old infant. Patricia Jean, the child, is mentioned. John J O Connor is son of J C O Connor, a Delphi contractor.
