The residence of Raymond Benefiet south of Flora on State Road 75 was practically destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning. The family was awakened about 4 a m and the Flora fire department was summoned. Damage was estimated at 9000 dollars and the loss was partially covered by insurance.

Dr. William Joseph Clauser 49, a Delphi native and Boston psychiatrist, died Christmas Eve in Orleans Massachusetts after a heart attack. Born July 22 1908 he studied at DePauw University IU medical school and served as Lt Commander in WWII. Deputy Miller seeks GOP nod for county sheriff

John F Miller, deputy sheriff of Carroll County, announced his bid for the Republican nomination for sheriff at the May primary. He lives at the county jail in Delphi with his wife Mary and daughter Lisa. Miller, 42, has 16 years in law enforcement and holds FBI and state training plus university courses. Carroll County Receives 1958 Corn Acreage Allotment

Carroll County is allotted 45 560 acres for 1958 with 44 375 acres in 1957. National corn allotment rises to 38.8 million acres as 38 new counties join the commercial area, totaling 932 counties in 26 states. The allotments depend on a supply based formula amid expectations of a 1.4 billion bushel carryover and a 23 billion bushel 1958 crop. Farmers eligible for Soil Bank participation.

Youths admit theft of gas and beer in local spree

A weekend spree led to the arrest of several juveniles and two local youths. Police say 13 and 15 year old boys entered the CG Club at about 1 00 a m taking gas and beer hidden in nearby woods. Robert Woods 20 and Jerry Graham 18 both of Delphi were jailed after confessing to stealing 25 gallons of gasoline from Rudy Clawson farm and gas from Trieda station. They were arraigned on illegal possession charges, fined $10 each, and given suspended six month terms with restitution and licenses suspended for 90 days. Juvenile hearings are scheduled for others involved.
