Stanley Cornelius of Delphi Lumber was elected president by the board after the annual banquet at the Masonic Temple Tuesday night. New officers include Robert Fitzgerald as vice president Dick Eikenberry as treasurer and Dorthea Shaffer as secretary. About 75 members attended.

Frank Fitch, chairman of the Carroll County March of Dimes, announced the fund total reached 3 035.81 driven by many individuals and organizations. Notable late gifts include 129 from the Auxiliary Unit of Harry Bohannon Post 75 American Legion from blue crutch sales and 64 from the Delphi Bowling alleys leagues.
The Rockfield PTA will sponsor an auction of baked goods produce and miscellaneous articles at Rockfield school on Monday evening February 20 at 7 45 p m. The public is invited.

Delphi Oracles salvaged a 56-47 Hoosier Conference win over Attica after a 24-24 halftime tie. They previously beat Flora and Attica, with losses to Winamac Rossville West Lafayette and Sheridan. They travel to North Judson Friday to close the schedule hoping for an unblemished conference record. Fred McCain led a 15 foot jumper burst in the first period as Delphi jumped to a 6-0 start. The second period saw a shooting slump but strong defense kept Attica to few field goals.
Mrs. George Revington and Mrs. Robert Gordon of Delphi are named as models for the annual bonnet breakfast at Purdue Union building on February 22. The event benefits the Indiana State Symphony Society and is hosted by the Lafayette Women’s Symphony committee.
Dozens of Delphi high school musicians earned first division ratings at district contests and will advance to state finals in Indianapolis this Saturday. Solo entries include Bill Million on piano Nancy Rule oboe Carole Welch clarinet and Virginia Fisher bells. Ensembles include first and second octets with multiple players, a girls trio, various quartets and trios across woodwind sections, with participants Nancy Simons Mary Lou Parks Sara Johnson Jim Blythe and others.
Sheriff Carey investigated two break-ins at Sun Valley estates on Lake Free man. At Mangus cottage an outboard motor was stolen, and at Stark Greer cottage two twin Johnson motors were removed. Theft likely occurred between Nov 10 and Feb 14.
The Delphi Lions announce Mrs. Maude Miller of Mishawaka Indiana as Cheer Club member of the week. She lives in Delphi and is recovering from a broken hip suffered last April while staying with her daughter in Mishawaka. Her birthday is February 22 and friends are urged to send cards and gifts.
Banks and county offices will close on February 22 in observance of George Washington’s birthday. No mail delivery on that day except for special delivery or perishable matter. merchants will remain open. Postmaster Robert Sieber noted city and rural routes halted unless special delivery.
Carroll county residents are urged to donate 4120 during the Red Cross Roll Call in March. Co chairs Mrs. Burton Honan and Mrs. Richard McCain named township and corporate leaders, with 800 earmarked for California flood relief.
Del Phi high school students raised 380 through a penny bid king and queen contest at a Valentine hop. Funds will aid Lowell Groninger of Burrows who broke his neck in a Sandy Beach diving accident. Freshmen Gary Caldwell and Judy Justice were crowned king and queen at the armory event.
Jerry Wagoner of Delphi led 54 contestants as Flora High School coached by Harold Thompson won with 2215 points in the Carroll County 4 H and FFA Crops Judging contest at Delphi REMO. Delphi placed second with 2205 points. team members included Wagoner Riley Rodgers and Elston. The top two teams advance to the District Judging in White County on April 19.
Mrs. Harry W. Eldridge learns of her father John Andrew Griffin's sudden death at ninety in Troy New York. He was active with Unity Life Insurance Company and is survived by two sons Earl Vincent Griffin of Troy and Gerald Francis Griffin of Watervliet New York.
At last week’s meeting the County Board of Commissioners re employed Mrs. Esther Gregg as county health nurse for one year. Her salary rises from 3000 to 3500 dollars.
Carroll county basketball teams close regular season this week preparing for the sectional tourney opening next Wednesday in Kokomo high school gym. IHSAA officials announced pairings. county teams hope to break a drought since combining for sectionals.
Car roll County achieved its Red Cross Blood Bank quota as the blood mobile visited Delphi. By 4 30 p m the Citizen reported 112 donors, exceeding the 108 pint target and prompting congratulations to the volunteer workers behind the effort.
County Clerk Joe Tolen announced Carroll county will receive 11 Republican delegates and 9 Democratic delegates for the state convention. Delegates are assigned by township districts based on the secretary of state vote share, with GOP districts 1 through 4 detailing townships and delegate counts and Democratic districts likewise allocated.
Superintendent Royce Kurtz announced a eight year study showing Hillcrest school enrollment growing from 758 in 1949 to a projected 1040 for 1956 57. The planned addition, due winter 1956 spring 1957, will aid growth but not open until fall 1957.
Peru speech students took first place in the Delphi Speech contest with Jeff of Lafayette second Howe Military Academy third and New Castle fourth. Twenty schools were registered. Delphi top ratings went to Virginia Peterson and John Hanna.

Major Foust representing the Adjutant General of Indiana approved a four acre site in South Delphi for a new 186000 dollar armory. The Delphi Chamber of Commerce School Board and Armory Board met for two hours at the library to finalize plans. The Chamber bought the land for 2500 dollars and will arrange abstracts and deeds to be sent to Indianapolis. if plans stall the title reverts to the chamber.
Miss Elaine Cunningham of Ball State Teachers College has been formally initiated into Sigma Alpha Iota the women s music honorary fraternity at the school. She spent the weekend in Delphi with her parents Mr and Mrs Everett Cunningham and was accompanied by Miss Barbara Baurff of Elwood Mississippi Miss Beverly Moore of McClure Ohio and Miss JoAnn Hempleng of Indianapolis.
