The community salutes the Boy Scouts during Boy Scout Week with a cooperative supper and court of honor, Rotary club honors, church attendance, and displays around town. A Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on Feb 15 aims to collect 108 pints. appointments urged with Mrs. Joseph T. Ives or Mrs. William Kerlin.
Walter D. Freant a 30 year old Kokomo factory worker extradited from California was found guilty of criminal failure to provide for two minor children and sentenced to one to seven years plus a $25 fine. He claimed divine instruction and sought probation after the verdict but Judge Merton Stanley rejected the plea noting his prior custody loss and court orders. Freant had stopped supporting his sons after a 1953 divorce and custody ruling in Carroll County and later ignored a California court order to resume payments before extradition to Indiana.
Robert A. Ferrier, currently county treasurer, announces re election on the Republican ticket. A former deputy sheriff under C I L Carey for 14 years and a World War II Army Air Force sergeant, Ferrier has two years of Indiana University extension study and accounting courses. He lives in Rock Creek township with his wife Mary Guthrie and their two children and is active in American Legion I O O F Masons and the Presbyterian church.
Edith Mae Cleaver filed in Carroll circuit court to contest her husband Clifford E. Cleaver's will claiming he was of unsound mind and the will was cereworked. She previously sought rescission of an ante nuptial contract. Frazer and Isham and Vernon E. St John represent the plaintiff.
Paintings by the late Roy B. Trobaugh, Delphi artist, will be auctioned February 12 at the Marott Hotel in Indianapolis. The sale in The Marble Room at 1 p.m. (EST) follows an exhibition February 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 197 oil works include landscapes, still lifes and portraits, many with frames, to settle the artist's estate. Skinner Bros. Auction Co. of Indianapolis handles the sale.
The last will of Fred Young was entered for probate in Carroll circuit court on Wednesday morning. Testimony of subscribing witness Charles L. Jordan supported the filing. The will leaves the entire estate to Neva Young, his widow.
The Oracles close their 1955-56 home season Friday night hosting the Attica Ramblers at the local armory. Tony Berto will present his annual physical education exhibit between halves with about 150 boys from 7th to 9th grades. The final game is set for Feb. 17 at North Judson.
Eighteen schools will compete in the third annual Delphi speech contest at the local high school. The event features six divisions with 246 entries, including a first time Bible reading contest. Participants include students from Peru Rockville Garfield Terre Haute and more, with Delphi students such as John Hanna and Patty Coghill among entrants. Judges come from local teachers and clergy, with Robert H. Jerry directing. Public sessions run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Union Bank and Trust Company will observe Monday February 13 as a legal holiday and will not be open for business.
The Carroll county REMC nomination meeting at Cutler school re-nominated Dennis Porter for district one along with Coy Shanks district 13 Artie Million district 2 Dale Maxwell district 1 and Robert Wingard district 6. The REMC annual meeting to elect directors is set for March 29 at 7 30 p m in the Flora Community Building.
Frederic C Martin age 69 died Monday night at his Delphi home after a long illness. He was born in Logansport in 1886 and married Frances Boyd in Delphi in 1914. He owned the Ford Agency in Delphi and later the Boyd Martin Boat Company. Surviving are his widow Frances, a son Boyd of Monticello, three sisters, a brother, and a funeral was held Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Home with Rev Rankin presiding. Burial in IOOF Cemetery.
Alva Milton Thomas 81 of route 1 Bringhurst died Thursday night in St Elizabeth hospital. Born January 12 1875 in Battle Ground son of Martin and Elizabeth Thomas. Survived by Eva Warsher wife two sons Arthur Bringhurst and Chester Georgia a brother and a sister. Rites held Sunday afternoon at Monon with burial there. Jackson funeral home in charge.
Miss Myrtle Garrison 72 of Bringhurst died Tuesday afternoon at Deer Creek nursing home after a three week illness. A practical nurse born April 24 1994 in Bringhurst she was daughter of Daniel K and Minerva Walker Garrison a member of Bringhurst Methodist church. Surviving Spurgeon Bringhurst Charles Hammond Omer Louisiana. Friends may call Carter funeral home rites today at 2 p m Rev James Cox officiating burial in Moss cemetery.
Celia Jane Riley died Wednesday night at St. Elizabeth hospital Lafayette after a lingering illness. She lived with her daughter Mrs. John Toole in Delphi the past 18 months and previously lived in Indianapolis and Clayton. Born November 13 1866 in Springtown Indiana she was married to Patrick J Riley who died in 1940. She was a member of the Clayton Baptist church. Surviving are three sons and three daughters including Mrs. Toole. Funeral rites were conducted Saturday at Eikenberry funeral home with Rev Forest Howell presiding. Burial in Amo Indiana cemetery.
The Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet on Tuesday night February 14 at the Masonic Temple. Speaker will be Phil Askew of Sullivan. Retiring Chamber president Maurice Clifford will be recognized. Ladies of the Eastern Star will serve the meal.
Mrs George Rinehart, sister-in-law of Mrs Harry Baum, died Monday night at her Greenport home. Funeral rites were held today in Greenport. A Kansas native, she had often visited her sister-in-law in this area.
Delphi High students stage Lowell Groninger Week to aid Burrows youth paralyzed after a summer diving accident. A popularity contest selects nominees from each class and proceeds fund medical treatments via a Valentine Hop at the Armory on Feb 10 with Sunshine Society donations already contributing 50 dollars.
Sixty-two adults enrolled across ten subject areas, but only two courses meet minimums. Typing I and Sewing will run on Feb 16 and Feb 20 with instructors Mrs. Robert Jerry and Louis Kent. Final registrations are sent to those enrolled. fall offerings hoped to expand.
Carroll county will be represented by Francis Ruman Monroe Jerry Garrison Ronald Pritchard and Murray Langston at the State Corn Jamboree to be held Saturday February 18 at Purdue Harold Berry County Agent announced. State 4H achievement winners from 90 counties are expected to attend the 4th annual event. LaMar Ratcliff from Mississippi, the only person to grow 350 bushels per acre last year, will join the panel with other high yield members. George Infield of USDA is the moderator.
Mrs. Elda Adams of Peru escaped injury when a 1950 model auto she was riding in skidded on a slick spot near Rockfield. The vehicle overturned and was completely demolished as she was en route to work at the Ratcliff Hotel Coffee shop.
Sheriff Sparkey Carey is confined to his jail residence with influenza after suffering a cold for several days and being put to bed Wednesday by his physician.
Mrs Albert Verrill, who underwent surgery at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, returned home Saturday.
Mrs. Burton Honan and Mrs. Richard McCain of Madison township named to lead Carroll county Red Cross Fund Drive. County chapter president Mrs. B. T. Crosby announced the appointments. Kick-off luncheon set for Monday February 27 at the Masonic Temple.
Carroll county residents are urged to donate on February 15 at the REMC auditorium in Delphi from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The goal is 108 pints. Eligible donors are ages 18 to 59 in good health. Appointments can be made by calling Mrs. Joseph T. Ives or Mrs. William Kerlin. Local volunteers and leaders include doctors John Byrne George Wagoner C C Crampton nurses Esther Gregg and others.

The Burlington Unit 414 of the American Legion Auxiliary is named Unit of the Month in National News for a rehabilitation project aiding veterans. The piece recounts a 1954 start with a $30 gift, sewing dolls and wardrobes, earning $140 in 1955, and ongoing fundraising to support VA hospital gifts and wider rehabilitation efforts.
Pittsburg teams posted mixed results with Camden junior high at home and Cutler visiting. The Pirates split two wins and losses, while the 5th and 6th grade squads faced Delphi and Oracles with a double overtime 29-27 win for the 6th graders and a 16-10 win for the 5th graders.
Sheriff Carey investigated a burglary at the David Moorhouse residence on route 2 in Jefferson township. The Moorhouses were away from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday and found several items missing including an electric frying pan an electric toaster a ladies coat and house coat and a kit of tools.
The Reverend Harry Parker former Delphi Presbyterian pastor now at Dayton Indiana will be the principal speaker at a dinner by the Ladies of the Eastern Star on Masonic All-Degree Day February 15. The event, sponsored by the Masonic Past Masters Association of Carroll County, is held annually in a different lodge. Ed Gerard Mt Olive Lodge Worshipful Master leads ticket sales.
The Delphi-Deer Creek Township Consolidated School Corporation received the January distribution of state tuition funds on Saturday February 4 as part of two semi annual payments from Indiana. The total amount was 51065.07 with 3367.48 deducted for State Teachers Retirement leaving a net 47697.59 for the school.
Mrs. Frank Miller of Delphi dwelling with a Mishawaka visiting daughter is seriously ill. Mr. Miller who suffered a stroke is staying with his daughter Mrs. Henry Fair and family.
Mr and Mrs Amel Spring and Mr and Mrs Harold Patton have traveled to Lakeland Florida for a vacation.
