Heart Sunday is set for February 26 in Camden Burlington Pittsburg Cutler Rockfield Flora Delphi and Burrows with Heart Fund volunteers calling on 15 to 25 homes each between 2 and 4 pm. County Federated Club women lead the drive with George Sites Flora Legion Auxiliary and federated clubs assisting.

Lois Young Wins District Rotary Speech Contest

Lois Young daughter of Mr and Mrs Steve Young of Delphi and a senior at the local high school won top honors in the sectional Rotary speech contest held last Thursday at North Manchester Other schools represented included Decatur and Huntington Catholic Young advances to the finals at Elkhart during the district Rotary convention on March 8 and local Rotarians plan to attend the meeting.

Excise Taxes On Liquor Licenses Sent To Schools

Carroll county civil land school taxing units received 7516.94 from alcoholic beverage license fees and gallonage excise tax for 1955. Walter P. Weyland announced distribution of nearly six million dollars from the two sources. Camden 116.67 and 627.68 from beer taxes. Delphi 1404.10 and 2646.71. Flora 283.34 and 1733.45. Yeoman 100 and 188.31. Carroll county 416.68.

Emmitt-Lake Engagement Announced in Rockfield

Mr and Mrs Walker Emmitt of Rockfield announce the engagement of their daughter Birdie to William Lake son of Mr and Mrs Reynolds Lake of Rockfield. No date for the wedding has been set. Miss Emmitt is a Camden High School senior. Her fiancé attended Camden High and works in Lafayette.

Delphi Armory Project Receives State Approval and Land Donation

The Delphi Chamber of Commerce donates 3.97 acres for a new National Guard armory to be built at a cost of 186000. Indiana Adjutant General approves the site chosen by the chamber at a February 15 1956 meeting in Delphi.

Scouts Reveal Building Plans In Delphi Rotary Meeting

John Klepingge, Charles Melson and Maurice Clifford were elected directors of the Delphi Rotary Club at a luncheon. John Peterson, president, reported a Scouts committee treas ury balance of 3500 to fund a Scouts building in Delphi to house trophies and equipment. The building, estimated at 6000, will be funded by subscriptions. Rotary will act as clearing house. William Metzel spoke on safe driving and Purdue basketball background. Delphi and Flora schools will host driving courses with the club illustrating driving tests.

Mrs. Fern Cohee of the License Bureau announces February 29 as the final day to buy 1956 license plates. New plates must be displayed by March 1 to avoid arrest.

Red Cross to Launch Fund Drive Monday in Delphi

Red Cross workers will begin the 1956 fund drive with a kickoff luncheon Monday February 27 at the Masonic Temple Delphi. The 12 30 luncheon will be served by Eastern Star. Father Peter Van Tiel will speak on Red Cross experiences in Holland. Carroll county township chairs named and a $4120 quota set for the year.

Flora Man Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated

Clyde Collins of Flora was arrested Tuesday night by Officer Trent on charges of driving while intoxicated. Collins will be arraigned in city court Friday morning.

Principal Harold Dick said 398 tickets were sold for the Kokomo sectional tourney last night. DelphI expected one of its largest cheering sections with 150 student tickets. Two Delphi youths arrested after gasoline theft attempt

Two Delphi high school students appeared before Prosecuting Attorney Watson McCormick Tuesday night after their arrest for the attempted theft of gasoline from Lawrence Davis farm. They were released to their parents and the case was reviewed with Davis after an auto pursuit ended with a gunshot through the fleeing vehicle.

Missing truck driver after steel truck fire near Patton

A semi loaded with steel burned on highway 421 near Patton while the driver, Delbert Woods of Warren Indiana, disappeared. Police say he walked away unharmed from the wreck north of Patton in the early Sunday hours as searches continue.
