Shirley Brothers of Sonora purchased J. M. Puckett's 8000 acre Sutton County property. John Bailey of Ozona acquired 1800 acres along the Llano River near Roosevelt from August Cummings and Mrs. J. H. Latham of Dublin bought 7000 acres from an Austin oil man near Carrizo Springs.

Associated Press reports Chiang Kai-Shek’s military planes bombed Kwangsi Kwangtung forces in Southern China. Six bombers struck near Wingchow and projectiles hit trenches held by Kwangsi and Kwangtung units in Kiangsi. Generalissimo Chiang aims to shift the balance in Nanking advised briefings.

Edwin Smith, 168 pound halfback from Del Rio, was named winner of the Canon Standefer football trophy for the 1935 36 school year at Texas Tech. Prim, a Pawnee Oklahoma graduate end and 1934 35 holder, was his rival. Smith, son of Mrs. Ed Smith, Del Rio, alternated quarterback and left halfback and is expected to be a regular halfback.
Paragould Arkansas June 29. A male team led by Herschel Batey moved through cotton rows as neighbors gathered to see the first musical cultivator in the area. Batey said he hitched a radio to the cultivator to enjoy music and baseball scores especially the St Louis Cardinals.
In Austin on June 29 candidates started filing expense accounts under election cost laws. Frank S. Morriss of Dallas reported receipts of 1175 and expenses of 1000.95 including travel and ads, with others listing varied expenditures and contributions such as Roy Sanderford who reported 5033.75 in contributions and 4692 in expenses.
Season tickets for Moore Park swimming pool drop from five dollars to two fifty for the remainder of the summer. The pass covers the entire family under twenty one living at home from July first to pool close. Individual swims cost ten cents for over twelve, five cents for six to twelve, and free for under six. House guests are excluded.
In Newark on June 29 Judge Guy L. Fake ordered arguments to begin tomorrow after the government lost the first court skirmish challenging the constitutional validity of the Federal social security act.
The Highland Hereford Breeders Association shared praise for the Texas Cattle Raisers Association for opposing Argentine cattle imports and canned meats that push down cattle prices. They also lauded the National Meat Board and planned a July 10 meeting in Marfa with the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. The Texas Planning Commission will join the groups the next day in Marfa, per W. B. Mitchell. Membership growth signals renewed strength in the cattle industry after a period of low prices.
Washington, June 29. A warrant for the arrest of Representative Marion A. Zioncheck of Washington state, who escaped from a Maryland institution Sunday, was released by the district attorney here. The warrant stemmed from charges by Mrs. Benjamin Scott Young who sublet an apartment to Zioncheck. A similar warrant was issued for Zioncheck's bride, Mrs. Rubye Nix Zioncheck. The release authorizes police to arrest him, and his removal to the Maryland institution cancelled earlier lunacy proceedings.
The American Legion picnic in Moore Park, planned for Monday evening for Legionnaires and their families, is postponed to next week because Sunday's rains drenched the park. Arrangements chairmen Julian LaCrosse I F Burditt Leslie Cranfill and Jas C Netts announced the change, noting the Auxiliary will join in the rescheduled event.
In Chicago a 26 year old entertainer Florence Thompson Castle was murdered in her hotel room while her 7 year old son slept beside her. The assailant left a Wallacooning message on the dresser mirror and fled after attacking the victim. Police said the killer may have intended further violence.
Tax assessor Lyle Almond notes Tuesday is the deadline for the second half 1935 tax payment under the split plan. Those failing to pay face 8 percent penalty and 6 percent interest plus $1 cost, with penalties starting immediately.
Des Moines report notes Congressman William Lemke of the Union party courting corn belt farmers. He targets Secretary Wallace for taking funds from farmers and mocks party rivals, arguing the dime propaganda hides the loss. Lemke criticizes both Republicans and Democrats.
General Jacob M. Coxey withdrew as the Farmer-Labor party's presidential candidate and said he would campaign to back Representative William Lemke, Union party nominee, in the race. Coxey, 82, announced in Massillon on June 29 that he would lead efforts to promote Lemke's candidacy.
Governor James V. Allred will launch his bid for re election with a Tuesday evening speech at Waxahachie High School Stadium. The address will be broadcast statewide between 8 and 9 o clock. Dr Geo W Cox, chairman of the local Allred for Governor Club, says the speech will review his stewardship and place him among national Democratic leaders.
Fort Worth June 29 George Gleeson of Fort Worth has been appointed general attorney for the Livestock Sanitary Commission of Texas by commission chairman L J Wardlaw Gleeson succeeds Ira Butler who resigned June 15.
Tropical storm rainfall drenched Del Rio Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras with up to 16 inches in places, causing flooded creeks and impassable highways. Las Moras and Cow Creeks ran high while the Rio Grande rose about 10 feet. bridges and roads faced closures and limited news from Quemado Valley amid continuing showers.
