Judge John J. Foster 67 prominent Del Rio attorney dies at 7:30 am Thursday after illness since returning from San Antonio. Born in England he immigrated at age 13, worked various trades, studied law at Georgetown, moved to Del Rio in 1904, helped draft city charter and organize Chamber of Commerce. Survived by wife Mary and six children. funeral Friday at 10 am with interment in Masonic Cemetery.
Banks of the city and the Chamber of Commerce will remain closed until noon Friday out of respect to Judge John J. Foster. The Chamber and the Retail Merchants Association urge merchants to close during the funeral hour.
E. K. Fawcett of Del Rio Wool and Mohair Co and long time Dolan Creek rancher earns the year’s highest price for Texas wool. Thirty thousand pounds of his 60 000 pound clip sold in Boston at 32 cents a pound netting about 284 cents. Fawcett supervises packing and ensures burlap bag tops are sewn to prevent fiber contamination.
A goodwill tour to Fort Clark by Chamber of Commerce representatives and Del Rio businessmen has been indefinitely postponed because Judge John J. Foster died. Judge Foster chaired the Chamber of Commerce military affairs committee.
Mr and Mrs Paul J Poag manager of the Princess and Strand Theatres describe a four day International Rotary meeting in Mexico City June 17 to 21 with 11000 visitors 235 actors 60000 spectators at a Palace of Fine Arts pageant. They note political upheaval briefly and praise the city’s security and the guide who showed them sites during their two week trip.
In a special message the President urged immediate legislation to end uncertainty over gold clause bonds. He proposed cash payment dollar for dollar with accrued interest or exchange for non gold clause securities, termination of US consent to be sued, and a uniform dollar for dollar policy with appropriations for payments.
A black widow spider was found in a yard in San Angelo yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Henry Tyler. Leslie Bare of San Angelo College said the insect closely resembles the black widow but a positive identification awaits microscope examination today. No children were bitten.

Washington June 27 Senate approved a hurried negotiated conference agreement extending the $500 million nuisance taxes for two years. The resolution extends taxes goes to the House for final congressional approval.
In Washington on June 27, Justice Jesse Adkins invalidated an indictment charging seven men with conspiracy to defraud the government over a 4.8 million PWA irrigation project in Willacy County Texas. The court ruled the indictments were faultily drafted. Two former PWA employees were among the seven accused for planning to defraud through changes in plans and specifications.
