Washington reports Capt Luke Dowe deputy customs collector in charge of the Del Rio port will retire at close of business June 30 1935 on pension. He is described as an old time government man on the Mexican border. His successor has not been announced.

Austin June 28 The attorney general department reversed a May opinion and ruled that reduced interest and penalty rates under the tax penalty remission bill apply after July 1. Previously the department said 6 percent interest from delinquency and 10 percent penalty on late payments after June 30. The prior resolution aimed to place the Tax Penalty Remission Act into immediate effect but failed to gain a majority.
The Red Cross will close its San Felipe temporary office today and finalize surveys and rehabilitation reports this Saturday. Police say a Socorro New Mexico man is in custody in Dallas over the desert disappearance of four Illinois tourists believed slain between Albuquerque and Socorro. The suspect matches the forged and cashed travelers checks of $100 in the name of George W Lorius. The missing are George W Lorius his wife and Mr and Mrs Albert Heberer.
City commissioners plan to relocate pumps to four water proof underground vaults at the springs site after flood waters submerged the city springs by 18 feet. Concrete work will start Monday and an iron house from Brackettville will cover the vaults as reported by H. Mike Averitt Priday.
