Tragic Well Tragedy Strikes Curtis Family Near Northfield

Miles Curtis of Defiance Grocery Co. returns to Northfield Ohio after a horrific incident at his son Perry Curtis’s home. Insane wife Anna Curtis allegedly drowned four children Harold Harry Anna and Helen then killed herself in a well at the Walcott place near Twinsburg. The four young bodies and the mother were found in a parlor with neighbors and coroner E C Lebeman investigating. Funeral set for Sunday at 1 pm at the farm, burial in Millers Cemetery.

State board cracks down as telephony firms dodge taxes

The state board of appraisers and assessors is adding more telephone companies to the duplicate after hearings. About 175 of 200 firms are known to have dodged taxes for years. Two five year operators were penalized 50 percent for back taxes. The board plans full investigation and aims to file the complete schedule by Oct 1.

Maumee Valley Record Emerges In Defiance

The Sherwood Signal owner C. E. Dickey partners with Frank J. Mains Jr to launch the Maumee Valley Record in Defiance. It debuts tomorrow on Record Printing presses at 205 Clinton Street with independent Democratic policy and a 75 cent yearly subscription. Dickey, about 35, born near Sherwood, is the son of the late Moses Dickey. Mains, 22, a Defiance native, is described as a sterling young man.

Runaway Horse Breaks Buggies on Clinton Street Morning

A runaway horse on Clinton Street near Ralston Avenue caused crashes before stopping near a river bridge. Nellie Koch and Tillie Harding narrowly guided a buggy past dangers while Mrs Fre mion and George Overly suffered minor mishaps. No one was seriously hurt.
