Passing of an Old Defiance Boy
Mrs Elizabeth A Carter and Mrs Esther Gleason report the death of their brother Rollin M Daggett in San Francisco California He came to Defiance with his parents in 1837 and learned printing He crossed to California in 1849 to seek gold and cared for orphaned children during a cholera outbreak He later became a notable western newspaper man and served as US congressman from Nevada and minister to the Hawaiian Islands The Defiance native remained connected to local relatives including Mrs Carter and Mrs Gleason and cousin Mrs Ann Snook of Antwerp He was prominent in the west and helped carry Nevada returns to Washington for President Hayes’s election.

Obituary of Dr Nathaniel W Hartshorn A Pioneer Clinician
Dr Nathaniel W Hartshorn born Knox county January 20 1822 died Ney November 13 1901 age 79 years 9 months 24 days He was a physician and public officer long a Methodist preacher and evangelist with ties to Lima Peru Williams and Defiance counties. Hartshorn moved from Allen to Putnam then Georgetown now Ney Defiance where he lived most of his life. He married Jane Mason in 1840 and Emiline Garver in 1901. survivers include Garver. He served as Justice of the Peace and mayor of Ney and joined the ministry at age ten later a local preacher for over fifty years. He helped found churches and led revivals and was regarded as a strong personality with enduring community impact.

Two Men Hurt in Perry Street Buggy Collision
Peter Schlosser and N J Norman were injured when their teams tangled near the Box company factory on Perry street. Schlosser sustained a deep scalp wound and concussion while Norman suffered stomach injuries after wheels passed over him. Mr and Mrs Wagner aided at the scene saving Schlosser's life.

Thumb Amputation From Boy With Ax Accident
Six year old Jennie Parker lost her left thumb above the second joint when an ax swung by her cousin Arthur White knocked it between the chopping block and blade at a wood pile in East Defiance. The mitten’s thumb was shaved off as well. Dr. Zellars attended the injured child. The family recently moved from Delaware Bend.

Funeral of late resident held at Ney church
Funeral services for a local resident were held at the M E church in Ney on Friday morning November 15 with the Rev Charles Bennett of Bryan and Rev C R Davenport officiating. The body was interred at Ney cemetery. August Wiebach received word of his brother in law John Mohr's death in Fon-du-Lac Wisconsin from dropsy. Mr Mohr had long lived in Defiance county and recently resided in the northwest. Funeral set for Fon-du-LacWednesday.
