Antwerp reports three mild smallpox cases with no bed rest needed and no new cases expected soon. Paulding records four mild cases in Johnson and Staley households with strict quarantine and school closures by health board. A Patton party exposure led to a Patton son’s illness and quarantine. latest reports show improvement.
The Express reports a contract to revive the old Crescent service with stories, children's pieces, sermons, and more. Helen Phelps will handle women’s news, with job printing expansion and new typefaces planned. Public support urged as editors promise top local coverage. Henry Fricke died at 1 30 am Saturday aged 65 years 7 months at his city home. Born in Hanover Germany he moved here 19 years ago leaving a wife and four children Henry Louis Fred ericka and Sophia. Funeral at St Pauls Lutheran church 2 pm Monday Rev Mueller officiating with the German Aid Society present. A daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Greenler died of croup at their Holgate home aged 2 1/2 years. Remains to be brought here via B and O tonight then to the home of Press Zsigler East Defiance for Sunday funeral at 2 pm Rev B W Slagle officiating.
Dr. B Cameron reports smallpox conditions improved in Jewell with quarantine extended at Shondell and A E Truby’s. Mild cases exist in Adams and Nagel families. disinfectants used and isolation maintained. Local residents visit, church events discuss turkey supper proceeds, and Defiance Machine Works receives a new lighting dynamo for 527 lights.

The Express printing office will shift to keeping only carrier accounts after a system change. Carriers will report daily papers taken and settle weekly. Subscribers in town or annual prepay patrons are exempt from carrier accounting. Express can be obtained from carriers for 10 cents weekly. A complaints check system will be set up for delivery issues.
