Frank JC Culley former Kenosha mayor and editor of the Kenosha Daily Gazette has published Barbara A romance of the Lower Sandusky Valley A tale of the War of 1812 and 1813 under the pen name Major Clinton The book follows early Ohio settlers and a Kentucky Lieutenant who courts a Chippewa girl adopted by a Sandusky valley trader The Fremont Ohio born writer’s grandmother and mother inspired the tale a 12mo 388 page illustrated work weathering frontier hardships in a 19th century setting.

He charts a career across Michigan Minnesota California and Wisconsin, including mayoral honor in Kenosha, and hints at revisiting Defiance for local data. C. J. The Defiance County Farmers Institute will gather at the court house in this city on January 10 and 11. Young Man Hurt In Adams Township Runaway

Ed Swinehagen a medical student from Ann Arbor home for holidays was thrown from a buggy when its front wheel came off near Hotel Defiance. He suffered a serious forehead injury while his mother was crushed beneath him. He is recovering at home in Adams township.

The Daily Express will feature a new artistic heading reading Defiance Evening Ex PRESS with evening in small type. The large Defiance ExPREss will sit over a Defiance map, showcasing rivers, railroads, canal, and the Maumee valley city of about 10 000 people. The new drawing aims to be electrotyped next week and will promote Defiance in every issue.

Courts Hear Two Major Common Pleas Suits In Hicksville

Two important suits filed in Common Pleas court involve State of Ohio ex rel John M. Sheets against B. & O. Ry over opening Newville road at Hicksville and an injunction to keep the railway from a 60 foot pier on High street Hicksville. Judge Hubbard granted a temporary injunction in the latter case.

Changes in Working Force at First National Bank

In 1901 the First National Bank of Defiance shows a strong, reorganized staff under president Edward Squire. Cashier Elbert E. Carter retires after 26 years. Virgil Squire becomes cashier. Virgil Squire and Fred Moss advance to teller and book positions. Ed C. Squire and Walter Doenitz join as bookkeepers. Will Kahlo continues as messenger. The bank reports excellent financial health and bets on a record year.
