Short of Heat Strikes Court House Amid Heat Crisis

Court house offices faced heating outages after the boiler was sabotaged overnight by draining water and overfiring. A replacement unit at about 200 dollars will take ten days to two weeks to install. Gas stoves will heat the auditor's and treasurer's offices temporarily while Sheriff, surveyor and clerk endure the cold.

Ackman dies after 35 years with Wabash railway

Jacob Ackman aged about 60 died in Peru Indiana hospital Friday after 35 years as a faithful Wabash employee. His remains to be brought home for burial from James Webber's residence in the Second ward Sunday afternoon. A daughter Mrs Pinkerton of Hicksville is expected. Funeral officiated by Rev. Carl Spannuth.

New York trip ends for Harry Lee after visit

Harry Lee left for his New York home Saturday following a pleasant visit with his mother in this city. Joe Shondel, with the Robinson show last season, has returned home and will stay until April. He will work with Manager Bronson until he joins his show. Joe is reported in first rate condition. Sheriff John McCarty’s marriage opens a junior gap at the central fire department. McCarty will remain assistant chief while a new captain may be chosen at the central station. Two other tall dark young men at the central station are expected to follow the example of the assistant chief. Dates for the days have been set but not announced.

Defiance College Offers 23 Weeks Tuition Deal

Beginning January 2 1901 Defiance College advertises 23 weeks tuition for 15 dollars and 65 cents a week for commercial department studies. The notice promises first class instruction and invites inquiries to President John R H Latchaw.

Sugar Factory Plans Expansion in Fremont Area

Continental Sugar company at Fremont reports 3,000,000 pounds of sugar for the last season. Beets grown by local farmers yielded less sugar than hoped, so field size will not enlarge. Company to experiment with last year’s field next season. Holgate beet shipments and Defiance county prospects discussed with K V Haymaker. Richland township potential seen.

Lakeside Resort Adopts Two Assembly Plan for 1901 Season

Lakeside summer resort shifts to two distinct assemblies for 1901. First runs July 10 to August 11, second August 20 to September 1 with German and English camp meetings August 12 to 19. Rev C W Taneybill reports over $15 000 raised toward settling Lakeside debts, with several thousand more needed.
