Encampment of UVA and WVRU to Meet in Defiance

The twentieth national encampment of the Union Veterans Union and the Woman's Veteran Relief Union will be held in Defiance for four days starting August 15. Delegates from all states, about six hundred chosen by each order, will attend. headquarters will be at the UVU hall and GAR hall with events including a public camp fire at City Hall and a joint officer installation followed by a banquet.

Mrs Catherine Kibble died at her home in Highland township Thursday evening at 7 50 aged 74 years She was the widow of Nelson Kibble who died two years ago The funeral services were held Sunday morning at 9 30 at the residence Rev Mansfield officiating Remains interred in the Kibble cemetery in Tiffin township Other items note a five year old girl injured at Island Park , Mrs Harry and daughter Hannnah off to Mackinac and other local moves Jed Antener reelected city scavenger for one year with salary of 45 dollars a month, no other applicants

Died Thursday in Defiance saloon man M Streit

Michael Streit died after a five month illness at his Jackson Street residence in Defiance. Born in Germany 49 years ago he lived there 26 years and formerly ran a saloon opposite the Wabash freight depot. Funeral Monday at St John’s Catholic Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery. survivors include wife and several children. He belonged to St Boniface and Catholic Knights.

Maumee Valley Chautauqua Opens With Satisfied Crowds

A large audience filled Maumee Valley Chautauqua Auditorium for the opening Thursday evening. Judge I L Hay praised cooperative effort and announced the schedule. The Mendelssohn Quartette impressed with rich harmonies and strong solos by Alkire and Hughes. Miss Smith's impersonations and recitations drew encores. Friday is Women’s Day with Prof. Goodrich opening a series on The Voice of the Stones, discussing excavations and tablets as evidence.

Turnbull Wagon Co and Defiance Carriage Co pledged wagons to aid fundraising, boosting committee morale and public notice across 26 counties. Chief Spring and John Diehl joined the committee with Diehl to serve as secretary, guiding the project in a businesslike manner.

Mike Rigney Suicide Ends Defiance Lodger's Life in Oklahoma City

Mike Rigney, former Defiance saloon keeper, died by his own hand at the Shance Hotel in Oklahoma City on Saturday night. Suspected family trouble and hypnotic influences discussed by investigators. He had been a prominent Defiance resident, owning property and active in the Eagles and Elks. Remains likely to be buried in Goshen. widow and brothers noted, with other local social updates included.
