Chautauqua Notes At Island Park Defiance Opens With Dr Fox

The Maumee Valley Chautauqua opened at Island Park with Dr. Fox of Chicago delivering a grand lecture Thursday evening. Attendees heard C J Jones D D and Rev George Hicks of Macy Ind. many praised Dr. Jones and Hicks with expectations of a strong weekend program including the Columbian Quartette and Miss Blanche Ellis Beach.

Merchants Carnival Opens with Elks Shows and Fire Dancer

The Merchants Carnival and street fair opens August 11 in Elyria. The Elyria Chronicle highlights electrical theater scenes of McKinley’s last day, the Biddle gang, and other carnival acts. Visitors enjoy the Ferris wheel, drugstore soda, and a grand hotel feast while editors and officials tour shows. Millard Bell and Lawrence Daggger visit. pension increases and local notices follow.

Stolen Livery Rig Traced From Payne to Lima

Wm J Feasel liveryman of Payne pursued a stolen Kiblinger rig taken Tuesday by Will Cameron about 18, with an accomplice named Worm. The black mare aged 11 weighed 1000 pounds bears a crooked ear and white hind foot. Suspects were seen at Standard livery at midnight then left toward Napoleon, traced from Payne to Lima and onward.

Burglar Suspects Enter Switzer Home on First Street

Mrs. Lottie Switzer and family were alerted by a roof creak around 10 PM Saturday. Police Marshal Tom Buchholz and Officers Ansberry and Shea responded but found no intruders, who used a ladder from A. H. Wood and likely fled before entry.

Funeral of H C Goldnetz Held at U B Church

The funeral Sunday at 2 pm from the U B church for H C Goldnetz was largely attended. Anthony Wayne Council, National Union, led the service with Rev P O Rhodes officiating. Music by R H Gleason and others, pallbearers listed, about fifty council members in line. Remains placed in Riverside cemetery vault.

Rural free mail service begins on multiple routes

Beginning Monday September 1 1902 rural free mail service will start on rural delivery route No 3 and on new routes Nos 4 5 6 and 7. Patrons are advised where routes run and may opt in. Approved uniform metal boxes are required. wooden boxes will not be served and after October 1 wooden boxes on old routes will be dropped unless metal boxes are installed or approved boxes obtained. Ice wagon for sale sparks trust talk in county politics

In Tiffin township Asa Toberan possesses an ice wagon linked to a rumor of a Democratic newspaper trust. The Crescent News and Democrat are said to be controlled by a northwest combine led by Herr Deindoerfer, with J. L. Patterson pressing for a county ticket favorable to the trust.
