We May not discover what it is at first but we will of we Only look Bank at them from time to time. Now there was the Case of Frank w Knapp. He was chosen by a majority of the people to serve is solicitor of the City of Defiance. While acting in that capacity he urged the passage of an ordinance gov lug to a certain school $2000 of the Peoples Money. It was not for a Catholic lutheran methodist presbyterian Baptist United Brethren episcopal or a school of any other denomination but merely a school in charge of Frank w. Knapp. There was no Law authorizing to e passage of any such ordinance. Or. Knapp knew that. Before he entered upon his duties As solicitor he took a solemn obligation to protect the people from just such things. The Republican and express warned the people against this ordinance and there immediately arose such a storm that the originator of it was glad to ask that it be repealed. Now the one Point i want to fix in Tho minds of the people is this when or. Knapp asked for the repeal of that ordinance it was not because it was unlawful not because it was unconstitutional but because the people were averts to giving up the $2,000. Chas. E. The nomination was made it a time when every Man in the District must have known that he had not Only advocated but urged the passage of a measure was unconstitutional and hence unlawful. Let the people of this District of what Ever party sect or Creed weigh this matter carefully. If or. Knapp should so far forget himself while acting As solicitor of a City would it be Safe to entrust far weightier matters to Bim in the legislature there is danger ahead if he is elected. Do not forget it. But there is another thing. The people of Defiance county Are called upon to elect a commissioner this fall. Or. Clem Mer is a candidate for re election. He believes he will be Defeated. probably feels that he deserves to be. He is not taking any part in this Canvas his party leaders have sent him away until the Day of the election. They probably deemed it Best that be should not meet the indignant democrats of the county. There was Strong opposition to his re nomination and the dissatisfaction is now wide spread. It amounts to a rebellion. A limit to the Over acts of even a county co missioner nod the people should not forget or. Or. Clem Mer stems to have been actuated by but one thought in this Deal and that was that his brother in Law Bud not been doing very Well and he must help him out. I made some mention of or.
