A list of wedding gifts received by Miss Reid and Mr E Rogers on returning to Lincoln Illinois details items from silver spoons to crystal glassware, china sets, linen, and keepsakes. Names include Mr and Mrs J W Rodgers Mr and Mrs Geo A Paidor Mr and Mrs J Ammon and many others from Detroit Indiana and Chicago. The long catalog lists varied gifts such as watches, goblets, center tables, and needlework pieces reflecting a wide circle of friends and relatives.
Cool dry weather and political exhortations headline a village update. Cattle buyers have been plentiful in recent weeks, with social events at George Barrick’s and a large wedding at the bride’s residence on October 27 1887. D L Warner and Mrs Marietta Lintz wed in a ceremony led by Rev Mrs Alleman. Jennie Harris supplied music. Six Corners singing school last Friday was a success. officers elected: Andrew Hattery doorkeeper, Hampton Otis asst. doorkeeper, Walter Battershell treasurer. Admission for nonmembers ten cents. Evening moved to Saturday 7 to 7:30. Alpha Stone died October 25 in Farmer Center aged 63 years 5 months 25 days, leaving a wife and four children. An election is set for next Tuesday. The Miss Maggie Limber, aged 18 years 8 months, died at the residence of Thomas Ward. Rev. Philips of Defiance closes his pastoral with the Regular Baptist church. Ayersville school starts next Monday under Frank Stone, with Frank Blue as assistant. The Free Baptist church will be dedicated next Sunday at 10:30 AM with Prof. R. Dunn preaching. The bell was hung last Monday and residents are urged to attend.
Frosty mornings and a busy community with births and health scares. Jacob Keck travels to Williams county for winter apples while Gracie Wade dies of diphtheria near Arthur. Bethel and Link district schools face diphtheria delays. Irene Ice and R M Weible supervise the local school. Cassius Ice and O Weible return from Kansas. Msss Irene Ice noted for school progress. Wild geese migrate south as two Well children battle diphtheria and a poor horse trade near Melrose concludes with a deceased horse.
Tur State of Ohio Putnam County affidavits assert John L. Geyer former Republican said to have shifted to the Democratic ticket in 1880. Sworn statements from Dr F B Williams James E Dicus Isaac M Allen and A J McClure claim similar recollections and motive. Public notices dated October 31 1887.
