Harrison Street Sewer contract awarded and city engineer created

At the city council meeting the Harrison street sewer contract went to J. R. Bowles and the United States Fire Clay Co. sewer pipe contract was signed. An ordinance created the city civil engineer office and T. S. Wight was named for one year at four dollars per day. A resolution assigns the fire engineer duties to display weather signal flags on the city hall staff.

Excursion to Ohio State Fair of 1885

The Ohio State Fair will be held in Columbus on August 31 to September 4, 1885. Premiums total 25000 dollars. Monument To Honor Soldiers From Defiance County

A Defiance Ohio effort seeks a 30 foot white bronze monument surmounted by a parade rest soldier. The design allows each county soldier’s name to be cast in raised letters. Unveiling aimed for next July 4 with veterans from Ohio and Indiana expected. donations accepted countywide.

Express Office Serenaded by 16th Regiment Band

Last Tuesday afternoon the 16th regiment O. N. G. band serenaded the Express office as their company returned home to Fortoria from the encampment at Napoleon. They played fine music and drew much praise for their performance.
