Henry County Oats Threshed At 284 Bushels From 3 Acres

In Henry County near Napoleon J H Pender reported 284 bushels of oats from 3 acres with a weight of 36 pounds per bushel. Despite drought the crop outlook for corn is favorable if frost holds off. A threshing feat by Gene Weaver’s team yielded six bushels of oats per minute using a Huber thresher. County graveling of the Bryan Pike road continues and Fauver farm gravel will be used on the north end. Kalida Pike work has begun and will move quickly on both routes.

Frigid conditions gave way to a 105 degree temperature on Friday. Watermelons flood the town as corn yields promise more than expected thanks to heavy rains and warm weather. Miss Effin Kiester marked her 14th birthday with a small gathering, ice cream and cake enjoyed twice. A Castetter House church social drew a good crowd with fine music and desserts totaling 318 servings.

Justice Tressler dismissed the State of Ohio versus Chas Postetter on cruelty to animals after a jury of 9 acquittals 3 guilty found little evidence the defendant caused the animal’s death. The case was discharged with the prosecution ordered to pay all costs.
