A Lay Witness Mission will be held at Deer Park Methodist Church May 16 18. Laymen from diverse communities will share how prayer and a personal encounter with Jesus Christ changed their lives at work home church and in the community. You will want to hear these testimonies.
Deer Park schools join 100 Houston area junior and senior high schools using student developed programs during Drug Education Week May 5 9. Student leaders will use assemblies posters school newspapers and other means to reverse rising drug acceptance among youth while billboards newspapers radio and television carry the message.
Cub Scout Pack 268 held awards night at the Deer Park Recreation Center. Den 6 opened with the flag. Bobcat, silver and gold arrow points, Bear cloth, perfect attendance bars, and service stars were awarded to multiple Cubs. Webelos awards and den mother recognitions announced. Den 4 won attendance banner and Uniform Inspection. Drug Education Week kickoff featured Astronaut Schweickart and Attorney Vance with local school participants named.
Dr Leonard Shure of the University of Texas will lead a piano workshop at San Jacinto College Friday May 2 from 10 am to 1 pm. Neighbor—hood coffees on May 17 led by Mrs James Risinger.
A wedding shower at the home of Mrs. Alton Rector 2705 Center Street honored Mr. and Mrs. Scott Robinson. Mrs. Robinson is the former Miss Lynda Donahoe. The room featured a shower umbrella and the bride’s colors lavender pink and white. Refreshments of coffee punch and cake were served to 25 guests.
Ten Deer Park Jr. High students earned top ribbons at the Inter scholastic League Contest held March 16-17 at Jackson Intermediate in Pasadena. Winners include Patti French 8th grade girls oral spelling first. Greg Vervalin and Gary Layton 6th grade boys oral spelling second and third. Kenneth Dexter 8th grade boys number sense third. Suzanne Wheat 8th grade girls speech first. Mickey McGhee 6th grade boys reading first. Philip Brister 7th grade boys reading fourth. Tom Fort 6th grade boys written spelling first. Henry Krebs and Mike Bishop 6th grade boys written spelling fourth.
