Dunn Retains Mayor Seaton Run-Off Victory
Incumbent Earl Dunn won a third two year term as mayor in the run off, with 740 votes to Harrel Kesterson 582 out of 1322 total. In Precinct 84 at the Civic Center Dunn led 569 to 400 while Precinct 51 at Kingsdale Recreation Bldg had Kesterson 192 to Dunn 171. A special council meeting Friday at 7 pm will canvass the votes and swear in the mayor.

Sigurd Olson Dies at 41 After Softball Practice
Sigurd Olson, 41, died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday evening during a Church League softball game at the Girls Softball Field. He lived at 325 Irene with his family, was a Deer Park resident, Lubrizol employee, and a member of First Baptist Church and Deer Park Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife Elda Rhea and four children Ethel, 14. Emily, 13. Eric, 11. Earl, 10. his mother Mrs. Mary Olson, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services, due to church work, will be at Deer Park Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, officiated by Dr. Jimmy Nelson.

Work halted on new Police Court Building roof strike

Deer Park High Symphonic Band led by John Wiley, with three area bands, earned the Sweepstakes Trophy at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest held last Friday and Saturday.
