Woman raped and stabbed in Deer Park vicinity
A Deer Park woman was raped in her Hillshire home by two white men 18 to 25, then driven in her car to Shoreacres near La Porte where she was stabbed in the heart between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. She was tied gagged and blindfolded during the attack and was hospitalized in critical condition after police intervened. No suspects yet.

Diane Phelps 17 died September 1 after a August 30 crash with a dump truck on Battleground Road. A Deer Park High senior and Monument Inn worker, she is survived by parents Melvin and (Curly) Phelps, two brothers, a grandmother in Illinois, and other relatives. Services were September 4 at First Baptist Church of Deer Park. interment at Granview Cemetery.

The coach shown was carved from a single block, taking about three years, with hand-carved miniature figures movable doors and shades and buckles of paper clips. Emergency Corps Responds to Multiple Aug 30–Sept 2 Incidents
The Emergency Corps answered two Aug 30 calls including a motorcycle pickup accident on Tidal Road with minor injuries. Later that night a car truck crash sent two people to the hospital in serious and very serious condition. On Aug 31 a West 13th Street auto pedestrian incident required hospital check up for cuts and abrasions. Sept 1 a Deer Park Junior High field incident sent a boy for back injury check up. Sept 2 firefighters handled a smoldering mattress at 4414 Durrant and a smoke call on James Street. Downtime until electric crew arrived for downed wires on Fleet.
