Amato's Italian Village Serves Deer Park Since Five Years
Amato uses math to count meat balls at Amato's Italian Village, which opened when he could not find good Italian food. The restaurant offers spaghetti lasagna ravioli and pizza and recently added an ice cream shop. Located at 8009 Spencer across from San Jacinto College, it operates seven days a week with varying closing times and offers takeout at 478-6693.

San Jacinto North Hosts Three Day Food Services Workshop
San Jacinto College North completed its annual Food Services Workshop with over 150 school food service professionals attending from Pasadena Galena Park Sheldon Deer Park Crosby Channelview Huffman Alvin Barbers Hill Aldine Cy Fair and others. The event sponsored by the College featured Home Economics leadership and guest instructors who demonstrated new equipment and practical use tips for meat slicers mixing bowls sanitation serving lines psychology safety and time and motion. Attendees were divided into small groups to observe equipment and topics such as Vegetable Cookery Meat Cookery Fast Food and related workshops. Participants earned certificates for the three day course and will return to their districts with updated methods.

San Jacinto College expands with five campus locations
San Jacinto College opens registration for five campuses including the new North site. North campus registration runs Aug. 20 for A-K and Aug. 21 for L-Z from 9 am to noon and 5:30 to 8:30 pm, with classes starting Sept. 2. Pasadena campus holds Aug. 26-28 registrations with day classes by last-name letters and evening sessions 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Deer Park schools begin Monday August 18 with a full day for all grades except first grade. Morning and afternoon kindergarten run 8 to 10 45 and 11 45 to 2 30 respectively. Grades 1-5 8 to 2 30. Grades 6-8 7 50 to 2 50. Grades 9-12 8 30 to 3 30. On Wednesdays early dismissal 45 minutes for elementary junior high and 30 minutes later for senior high for team planning and professional development. Teachers day 7 45 to 3 35.

Linda Young Honored on Texas Home Economics Board
San Jacinto College North instructor Linda Young was named to the Texas Home Economics Association Board and will chair the Metric Education Committee. She will lead district material on the metric changeover and present a metrics education seminar at THEA's February Houston meeting, as THEA serves teachers and professionals across K-12 and higher education. The state body is part of the National Home Economics Association, which recently drew over 7,000 attendees at its San Antonio convention.
