Deer Park to Spend 3.9 Million on Immediate Capital Improvements
Deer Park City Council approved a 3.9 million first phase of an 18.5 million five year capital improvements package to address immediate water and sewer, drainage paving and right of ways, public buildings, and parks. The plan calls for seven water and sanitary sewer items and three drainage and paving projects with a public meeting set for August 26 to gather citizen input.

Explosion at USI plant kills shift supervisor
An explosion at Deer Park's U.S. polyethylene synthesis plant killed Arthur A. Costley, 50, a shift supervisor, who was seen near the scene at 5:15 am Aug. 4. Two workers were hospitalized with injuries from firefighting efforts, and others were treated for related conditions. Authorities said the blast was triggered by static electricity igniting ethylene gas. damage was confined to synthesis areas with no loss estimate yet.
