Deer Park History Remembering an Early Texas Family
The Deer Park Bicentennial Commission highlights 1834 events when the William Wilson family bought 631 acres along Buffalo Bayou and built a home near the Hull Bayou shore. Mary Wilson Jackson died July 24 1834 and her brother on October 1 1834. their weathered graves remain the oldest landmark in Deer Park within a rail fenced Shell Refinery tank farm.

Drive Friendly: Deer Park Sees Spike in Accidents
In a call for road safety, Melvin L Ritter notes a 66 percent rise in accidents from 1974 and reports five crashes in Deer Park for Aug 3 to Aug 9. Two fatalities occurred near city limits at San Jacinto College with Spencer Highway and at Highway 225 and Battleground Road. One crash stemmed from a heart attack, the other from disregard of a traffic signal. He urges awareness, adherence to traffic rules, and belt use, ending with a plea to drive friendlier to save lives.
