Public hearing urges action on Houston Ship Channel fire safety
A Houston hearing on July 28 urged legislation to curb inadequate fire protection in the Ship Channel area. Pasadena Mayor John Ray Harrison and Harris County Fire Marshal J J Pruitt called for a designated party to oversee inspections and firefighting in the no man s land where no department claims jurisdiction. Fire fighters association head Lester Tyra and others highlighted past explosions as proof of the coordination gap and supported a plan to coordinate with volunteer firefighters, while a request to pause legislation for further discussion was noted.
