City Council Advances Glenwood and Nearby Street Work
The Deer Park council moved ahead with paving Glenwood Catalina Jana and Holton Avenues by authorizing bids for asphalt equipment and labor due August 31. Bayshore Engineers were approved to draft plans for San Augustine Street upgrades, West Georgia Tree area water and sewer service, and drainage along Deer Park Gardens East. The Planning and Zoning commission okayed Deer Park Gardens Section IIb plat, 11 homes to be built by A J Whipple. Council approved 3 70365 in federal funds for street sealing and studied Solid Waste disposal land purchase though the deal fell through. Bill McDonald to oversee solid waste funds.

Deer Park district urges students who did not attend Deer Park last year to register August 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at their school. High school students in grades 9 and 10 register at the north campus 410 Ivy St, while grades 11 and 12 register at the south campus 710 San Augustine. Moving within the district requires registration to update files. unchanged addresses do not.

First Aid Course Offered by Deer Park Volunteers
Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department plans a 40 hour first aid course to start within three weeks. Rescue Captain David Cameron and Assistant Rescue Captain Jerry Thompson will teach two 3 hour evening sessions each week at the central fire station. The Red Cross based curriculum covers wounds, respiratory emergencies, artificial respiration, poisoning, drugs, bandages, splinting, emergency childbirth, and rescue. Police Recover Sack of Stolen Gas Caps
