Burglary Bust Nets Cache From Deer Park Theft
Deer Park police halted a burglary in progress last Thursday night and recovered a substantial haul shared with Texas City police. The seizure included a submachine gun, sawed off rifles and shotguns, 12 gunge, 22 ammunition, a stereo, speakers, wrought iron lamps, and narcotics. (Continued on page 2).

Flea Market Planned August 6 7 in Deer Park
Deer Park Mayor Bill Black announced changes to the Flea Market benefiting the Per cy Calvin Bingham Medical Expense Fund. The event runs 3 to 9 p.m. Friday August 6 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday August 7 at the rodeo grounds on Luella. People can reserve booth space by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 479-3002. Jaycees will haul large items for donation, the Youth Riding Club will sell barbecue hot dogs and drinks, and special Jaycees activities include displaying old autos and selling sledge hammers to smash them for charity.

Deer Park Schools set two day new pupil registration for fall. Eligible students not enrolled last spring must register at their attendance area school with immunization records. Kindergarten and grades 1 5 register August 11 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Grades 6 12 may register August 10 or 11 during the same hours.

Filing Deadline Set for Deer Park School Elections
Deer Park School Board sets 4 p.m. September 1 as filing deadline for one of three trustee seats. The Oct. 2 election will fill Positions 1, 2 and 3, with incumbents James O Banion and J P Bonnette Jr. and the seat vacated by Bob Holder. Funnel Shaped Cloud Destroys Two Trailers in Deer Park
A funnel shaped cloud struck a mobile home park on Durant Street in Deer Park at about 4 17 p m Thursday Aug 5 destroying two homes injuring eight none seriously. Victims include the Brunt and Wishert families and several Hester and Amason relatives treated and released from Pasadena hospitals. Witnesses say the storm also damaged a small baseball park and a metal storage building before leaving Canada Park Mobile Homes.
