Pakistan and India clash as jet shot down near Chhamb
A Defense Ministry spokesman said one Pakistani F86 Sabre was shot down and another hit by Indian ground fire crashing in Indian territory. He accused Pakistani jets of strafing a Moslem mosque near Chhamb during prayer, killing 30 to 40 civilians and destroying the mosque. Seven planes were reported strafing the Jaurian area. No other casualties confirmed. The clash follows two prior air crashes in southeast Kashmir and involved alleged use of American equipment and tanks. American officers reportedly visited Kashmir to verify the charges.
