Berlin authorities clarified that the 6 57 p m siren warnings were only a rehearsal and dismissed reports of Polish bombings of Berlin. The AP report notes Italy’s stance in the Axis and Allied responses to recent raids on Warsaw and threats from Nazi forces.
Berlin reports the first day of hostilities with Germany claiming victory lines and air control while pledging allegiance to Hitler. Reichstag annexes Danzig and Germany prepares for a full war effort as Soviet Russia edges toward a bloc against Poland.
