Higher Food Prices Predicted in Six Months
Washington. Herbert Stein chief econ advisor to President Nixon said food prices could rise at a 10 percent annual rate over the next six months and be slower than the 20 percent jump seen in the first half of 1973. He cautioned declines unlikely until late 1974, and warned wholesale and consumer prices may rise again while income gains persist. Stein opposed tax hikes to slow inflation and urged moderate wage increases.

Free Milk For Poor Children Stalled By Oil Impasse
Congress stalls final action on a 9.9 billion Agriculture Department package tied to environmental and consumer agencies over a environmental impact statement. The school milk program would rise from 25 to 97 million and extend free milk to all eligible children and those in nonprofit day cares. The impasse arises from a House amendment and EPA filing requirements amid oil shortages and calls to waive regulations for high sulfur fuels.
